Product Description

The Boss DS1 Distortion Effects Pedal delivers added sustain and distortion types that range from very soft to very hard.
With its level control, you can set the DS1 to match your volume level, or to get that boost when you go into a lead. Other controls are tone and Distortion (affects the amount of distortion).

The DS1 provides a harder distortion effect for guitar and keyboard sounds. Instead of toneless, fuzzy distortion, the DS1 faithfully reproduces all the subtle nuances of your playing dynamics, from whisper-quiet to screaming loud. The onboard TONE control allows you to tailor the overall sound to your liking.

What is your overall opinion of this product?
This isn't built to be versatile. It isn't built to be a super high gain death metal distortion. It's built to sound like a distortion channel on a decent tube amp, and it does that fantastically well! To my knowledge, this is Boss's cheapest effects pedal, and it's is a wonderfully good value! I expected it to sound really thin and harsh with my Mexican Fender Strat, but even those pickups sounded really good here! (If you can get over the noise; those pickups are dastardly noisy when driven!) My main guitar, a Super Deluxe FSR Telecaster with Fidel'tron humbuckers, is being worked on so I haven't had the pleasure of really putting this through its paces, but if it can make a Mexi Strat sound passable, imagine what it will do with my grown-up guitar!

Mild Distortion 335 KB
A mild, mellow distortion. Excellent when you pick up near the neck.
Hard distortion 417 KB
Switch to your bridge pickup and let it rip. The TONE level can strengthen highs for even more distortion power.
