Motion Sound SRV112 1x12 Guitar Rotary Speaker Cabinet

The Motion Sound SRV112 is a Rotary Speaker that can be hooked up to your amplifier.
The SRV112 is designed for smaller clubs and stages. Here, the face-forward autostop is a distinct advantage for the player who has limited stage area, or a limited budget. This speaker cabinet can serve double duty – both rotary and stationary Motion Sound introduces two new rotary speaker cabinets designed and voiced specifically for guitarists and powered by your own amplifier – the SRV112 and the SRV212. Features include Eminence Screamin’ Eagle speakers firing into a true mechanical rotor, adjustable fast and slow speeds, and adjustable transition time. The SRV also features an autostop function, which uses a sensor to stop the rotor in the face-forward position, so the speakers can also be used as stationary cabinets with any amp.

Warranty and Maintenance
  • The rotor, motor and belt will all operate for many hours without adjustment.
  • Rotor: The rotor spins on sealed ball bearings and requires no oil or any other service.
  • Belt: The pyrothane elastic belt usually needs no adjustment. Tension can be adjusted by moving the motor mounting screws. To access, remove the front grill cover. Do not overtighten the belt. Adjust the tension only enough to stop pulley noise or prevent belt slipping.
  • Finish: The SRV is coated with our tough Polymaric polymer finish. Clean as needed with mild soap and water. Do not get water on the grill cloth.
  • Warranty: All warranty service must be pre-approved and performed by Motion Sound or an authorized service center. Review Motion Sound’s warranty and service policy for details.

Gear Setup How-To
  • Connect a 1/4 inch speaker cable from your amplifier’s output jack to the speaker’s 1/4 inch input jack on the back panel.
  • Connect the 1/4 inch TRS cable from the supplied speed control pedal to the Control Pedal input on the front panel.
  • Set up your guitar and amplifier as you normally do, and turn your amp on.
  • Set Slow, Fast and Transition knobs straight up (to 12:00) and turn on the SRV.
  • Press the footswitch to select desired rotor speeds.
Front Panel Controls
  • Control Pedal: This is the 1/4 inch input for connecting the speed control footswitch cable included with the SRV.
  • Rotor (indicator): The LED blinks to indicate the speed of the rotor when in motion. When you press stop on the footswitch control, the rotor will coast to a complete stop, facing forward. When in Stop mode, the LED remains lit but does not blink.
  • Stop: This is a recessed trimmer that allows you to adjust the rotor’s stop position. You should consult your SRV manual, or an authorized dealer before attempting to make any stop adjustments
  • Power: This LED indicates that the SRV is successfully powered up.
  • Slow: You should set this speed first. You can dial in a rich range of chorus sounds with this adjustment. MIN is the slowest position for this control. The MIN position is not a Stop position. The rotor is still in motion at this setting.
  • Fast: This control sets a range of higher speeds, producing the rich throb associated with rotary speakers. The MAX position adds no speed increase to the slow speed setting. As you move the knob toward the MAX position, you add speed to the slow setting. The Fast speed setting is added to the slow speed setting when the speed button LED is illuminated on the footswitch.
  • Transition: The Transition knob controls the time it takes to change from Slow to Fast or Fast to Slow. MIN is the slowest time and MAX is the quickest time. Transition is very useful – you can step on the footswitch for a speed change, then walk away while playing and the transition is taking place.
  • Stop Button: When the SRV is in Stop mode, the LED is illuminated, slow and fast speeds are disable and the rotor ramps down to a complete stop with the rotor facing forward. When the SRV is taken out of Stop mode, the LED goes off, and the rotor ramps up to the speeds selected by the speeds are disable and the rotor ramps down to a complete stop with the rotor facing forward. When the SRV is taken out of Stop mode, the LED goes off, and the rotor ramps up to the speeds selected by the SRV Sound
What to Expect
  • The quality of sound you produce with the SRV depends largely on the quality of your own guitar, amplifier and cables. Given a solid baseline of gear, the SRV will put forth a lush, three-dimensional, room-filling rotary sound.
When the SRV is rotating, its sound radiates from the cabinet’s front and side panels, dispersing sound differently than a stationary speaker, so the perceived volume of the rotating SRV will be lower than that of a stationary speaker cabinet. This is because the rotating SRV only faces front about 40% of the time. When the SRV rotor is stopped, its perceived volume is more like that of a stationary speaker cabinet.

Sound reflections enhance the rotary effect, so the SRV will sound more impressive when placed near reflective surfaces such as walls and ceilings. Take this into consideration when positioning the SRV on a large stage or on an outdoor stage.

Conclusion
Motion Sound has designed and manufactured rotary speakers since 1995. The SRV models represent the second generation of rotary speakers they have designed specifically for guitars. Through the design and development process, they have incorporated suggestions from musicians, and their own designers’ experiences, into the SRV features and performance.

The SRV-112 and 212 establish a new standard for guitar rotary speakers. Please visit the Demo section of this DVD to see and hear Ed Supple put the SRV through its paces.
