Product Description

The Pigtronix FAT Drive Tube Sound Overdrive Guitar Pedal gives a meaty, dynamic, all analog tone that is equally suited for gritty country, raunchy blues and all out rock! Multiple cascaded gain stages allow for light overdrive tones to rich saturation, all while retaining musical dynamics and the original character of your instrument. The ‘More’ toggle switch alters the gain structure for enhanced crunch and soaring leads. The Pigtronix FAT Drive is true bypass and runs on standard 9V power but ships with an 18V adapter for superior headroom, clarity and output.

FAT Drive takes a futuristic analog approach to create complex crunch tones using CMOS clipping and a variable low pass filter for tone shaping. Bringing the tone control all the way clockwise takes this filter completely out of the circuit for total transparency and robust low end. Rolling the tone control back smooths out the highs, leaving ample mid-range bloom and bottom end punch.

Playability and Feel
Like A Train
Your general opinion of this product.
This thing rattles with the weight of a Soviet coal train. A really heavy beast. The rumble I got when I put this in line was chunky and beefy and far out. Not a maniac screamer for the shredding crowd, but dirty man. Real dirty.
Would you consider this product to be made well? How dependable?
Only time will tell. Right now, feels pretty solid.
Bright and snappy? Dark and smooth? Were the pickups hot, mellow, thick, thin?
Tone's the point, isn't it? Pretty versatile in what I was able to twist out of it. But mostly this is a dark intimidator, because I can't help but crank it to get to the real beef--and it's there if you want it. I suppose you can go soft by dailing it down, but that ain't for me, so I couldn't say what the more frilly end will do--I just don't live there. With a sustainer/compressor added in line is when this baby really kicks it.
How did the stain or paint job look?
I can see it when I'm playing. Nuff said.
How has it stood up over time?
...mmm, we'll see...but for the price, I'd say you get your money's worth with this pedal.
