Yamaha MO8 88 Key Synthesizer KeyboardThe Yamaha MO6 Synthesizer deliuvers the power, sound and music creation capabilities of the Yamah Motif ES to an all-new, affordable price.
Perfect for young musicians, home and project studios, songwriters and live performer, the 61-key MO6 and 88-key MO8 draw on the advanced technology of the professional-level Yamaha Motif ES with a full set of authentic sounds and comprehensive music-making features – including an emphasis on contemporary styles and voices – plus an exceptionally large internal wave memory capacity and the immediacy of hands-on control. Designed to be highly portable and compact, the MO Series also serves as an ideal keyboard for live performance applications. Or use the USB connection and the included Cubase AI software and work at home too.
Sounds include a full complement of realistic instrument Voices and Drum Kits plus a number of modern and vintage synthesizers, making the MO Series well-equipped for today’s hip-hop, dance and electronica music styles. For sound shaping and signal processing, the MO features sharp, responsive filters with comprehensive real-time knob control, and an extensive set of high-quality onboard effects (reverb, chorus, EQ, Master and three separate Insertion blocks).
Advanced music production tools include a built-in Song/Pattern sequencer featuring the same Phrase Factory capabilities found in the Motif ES. The powerful Arpeggio feature provides more than 1,700 sequenced phrases that can be controlled interactively via the keyboard. The Master mode function allows the MO to be used as a master keyboard controller (with independent Zones), and to be easily reconfigured between Voice/Performance play and Song/Pattern play in live applications. Category search will quickly call up desired sounds, while Performance mode will combine up to four different voices in layers or a keyboard split.
The MO will seamlessly integrate into computer music systems and features full remote control of DAW software – including transport and mix controls, as well as track arming, muting and soloing. There is even full editing for soft synth plug-ins directly from the front panel and the Motif ES-sized LCD display. A new feature on the MO Series is the inclusion of global templates to easily configure the keyboard to work with computer software.
The MO6 and MO8 are the latest instruments in the Yamaha line to feature compatibility with Studio Connections, a joint initiative led by Yamaha and Steinberg to bring total integration between hardware and software into the music production environment.
With Studio Connections you can create and save MO settings to a song within a DAW application such as Cubase SX 3 or Nuendo 3, and instantly recall and restore those settings when you reopen the song. Audio Integration takes the hardware/software link a huge step further by allowing you to treat a Studio Connections-compatible synthesizer exactly as if it were plug-in software connected directly to the VST mixing engine.
Additional computer-oriented features include two USB (TO HOST and TO DEVICE) connections and a built-in coaxial digital output, plus compatibility with Yamaha’s powerful Voice Editor and Multi Part Editor software.

QUALITY: I spent about an hour playing one of these (both the Mo-8 and the Mo-6) in the local music store and was completely blown away. I was a little concerned initially about how the company marketed this unit as "semi-pro". But once I put my fingers on it and experimented with all the sounds, my concerns were alleviated. Don't be fooled. This IS a pro piece of gear. The quality of the sounds is AMAZING. Great Rhodes and Wurly sounds, great piano, great pads. Very pro-sounding. I also have a Korg Triton Pro, and the MO-8 actually blows it away in many areas (and I'm a Korg loyalist).
FEATURES: I don't really need sampling capabilities, so this was perfect for me. It has a wide range of sounds, arpeggiators, effects and sequencing. That's all I need. I'd rather pay less and skip the sampling. Also, the keybed is extremely comfortable. Weighted action, but not too heavy for those trying to make the transition from non-weighted to weighted. QUALITY: verry well built1!
FEATURES: i really feel yamaha flopped on this one, dont be fooled!!! its looks like a motif , it ALMOST sounds like a motif, but it aint no motif.it dosent even have a full sequencer. for the price triton le has this beat hands down, with more outs( for studio dumping),and a sample option.it dosent even have a means of storage!! it has the same amount of memory as the motif es but far fewer sounds! come on yamaha, you can do better!korg did
EASE OF USE: i am use to yamahas interface the catagory section and the favorites feature is great for live performances~!!
VALUE: if it wasnt for the sounds, i would give it a 1!!!korgs sounds dont compare, but the features kill this board!!
SOUND: sounds great!!! almost as good as the es, BUT it wasnt sampled as many times( its the same sound no matter what velocity you strike the keys)

QUALITY: This unit is positively well made in every way. I can safely say that there are no blemishes, defects, or any physical problem at all. The response of the keys are somewhere between synth-action, and true acoustic grand. For me, the keyboard's weighted action allows me to play with more "feel" than either a synth-action instrument or an acoustic instrument. I have not found a weakness here.
FEATURES: Although no accessories came with this product, the features alone make this board worth its weight in productivity. The sound of this instrument is awesome. With 24-bit sounds, the keyboard sounds, both acoustic and electric, are organic and realistic. The sound of this unit will cause you to rethink the meaning of "full sound."
EASE OF USE: The manual is very complete in its coverage..and if you need support, try "motifator.com", as you can find the answer to most questions you may have.

QUALITY: I used this keyboard as a rental to record a soundtrack using piano, organ, and string sounds. The grand piano sounds are great. I didn't have more than an hour to get used to this instrument before recording so I had limited time to figure it out. I work at a music store and have played with the Korg Triton and I think this new Yamaha really gives it a run for the money- especially since the Korg is more expensive by a few hundred dollars (the comparable model). Quality is the expected wonderful Yamaha quality- can't be beat. It is a nice solid keyboard, not too heavy to transport and comes complete with a stand, and sustain pedal. I would definitely purchase this instrument. I am very picky with piano feel and this played nicely- the keys were not too heavily weighted but not light either. Just right. I have nothing really but good things to say about it for the limited time I used it. It does need a good keyboard amp. It does not have built-in spe

QUALITY: This is a well made piece of equipment. Definitely Pro grade. It has been dependable and has not let me down since I bought it. As always with Yamah, quality is top notch. Definitely 5 on Quality.
FEATURES: Best Features to me are the piano sounds. They blew me away. I used to be a Korg loyalist cos the MOTIF interface was somewhat difficult but as I got more frustrated with the pianos on the Triton, I took the leap into the MO considering the price. I have since sold my Korg Triton. The percussion and preset beats on this unit is awesome also. The 4 band EQ on this unit is something I have never had on a keyboard. It's a really great feature in my opinion.
EASE OF USE: Here is where the unit does not earn the full 5. Korg has a more user friendly interface in my opinion but between the manual and motifator.com, I seem to be making this work pretty good for me. I would give a 4.
