Ovation CC24S Celebrity Cutaway Acoustic Electric Guitar

The Ovation CC24S Celebrity Cutaway Acoustic Electric Guitar which has the Ovation sound that made the acoustic guitar a viable electric instrument, is now within everyone's reach.
Complete with Center sound hole and a Rosewood fingerboard this tough little guitar is built by Ovation's Pacific-based subsidiary and benefits from the same USA-made Lyrachord body as its more upscale American brothers.

Minimal bracing, Maximum Sound
The Celebrity features A-shaped bracing that was perfected over the last few years through a computer modeling process. This technology was once only available in more expensive instruments.

The Celebrity Mahogany Top
Like its hue, the sound of the mahogany top Celebrity is a bit darker and moodier than its spruce top brother.

The Celebrity Natural Finish
The Celebrity cutaway boasts almost two full octaves of fingerboard access.

Ovation Guitars
Ovation guitars first captured the interest of professional musicians who wanted an acoustic guitar with greater projection on stage. The most visible of these guitarists in the late '60s was Glen Campbell. Every week Glen and his Ovation were welcomed into millions of homes around the country, as America tuned into The Glen Campbell Goodtime Hour.

In the beginning only about 15% of the Ovation guitars had pickups. Ten years later, 90% of our guitars were acoustic/electric. The truly amazing thing is that it also took about 10 years before any of our competition began to offer acoustic/electric models as standard in their line.

While the Ovation pickup has remained the same, the electronics have kept pace with the players' needs and sound reinforcement technology. Over the past 25 years, Ovation has maintained its leadership as the dominant acoustic electric guitar in the world.

Subject:Quality Ovation Tone On A Budget
Quality: It looks extremely well made. The onboard pre-amp seems to be better quality than the previous Ovation I owned. There are a few blemishes in the spruce top, but considering the value-vs-tone-vs-playability it is entirely forgivable. This could hang with guitars costing 3 times as much and hold its own on features and tone.
Reliability: I've had it one day. Trying not to expose it to our sub-zero temperatures too much; I understand it can cause the top to split or crack, although this is an issue for any acoustic guitar...
Overall: Wonderful!
Playability and Feel: It played quite nicely from the factory; tuned the strings up to pitch and the action seemed fine. The strings were a heavier guage than I like, but that's an issue of personal preference.
Tone: Bright, and projects really well. There isn't as much bass as a typical dreadnaught, but the midrange seems nice and tight. Not too boom-y.
Finish: There are a couple of off-color spots on the top, and one spot where the grain of the wood looks almost like there was a knot, but other than that, fine.
Action: The action was almost but not quite perfect. I changed to lighter guage strings, and it WAS perfect! ;-)
