Ovation Guitars
Ovation guitars first captured the interest of professional musicians who wanted an acoustic guitar with greater projection on stage. The most visible of these guitarists in the late '60s was Glen Campbell. Every week Glen and his Ovation were welcomed into millions of homes around the country, as America tuned into The Glen Campbell Goodtime Hour.
In the beginning only about 15% of the Ovation guitars had pickups. Ten years later, 90% of our guitars were acoustic/electric. The truly amazing thing is that it also took about 10 years before any of our competition began to offer acoustic/electric models as standard in their line.
While the Ovation pickup has remained the same, the electronics have kept pace with the players' needs and sound reinforcement technology. Over the past 25 years, Ovation has maintained its leadership as the dominant acoustic electric guitar in the world.

| Quality |
| Would you consider this product to be made well? How dependable? |
| Virtually all inexpensive Acoustic/Electrics are manufactured on the Pacific Rim (China & Korea in particular). If you're looking for a collectors piece, you're dreaming. However, if you want to protect your Goodalls, Olsons, Taylors, and Martins from road use, but STILL produce great live sound from an infinitely playable instrument, you'd be crazy not to consider the CC-48. |
|
| Reliability |
| How has it stood up over time? |
| Mine has stood up to 250 gigs over the last 3 years, with no worries. Do I expect the top to maintain structural integrity indefinitely? Probably not. Don't care. At $400, if I were to buy one every 5 years, and amortize the cost against earnings, it's still a drop in the bucket. |
|
| Overall |
| Your general opinion of this product. |
| For what it is - a very playable, live sound system-friendly axe, I've yet to find one that's better. And, being older than dirt, I've played a bunch... |
|
| Playability and Feel |
| How does it feel, Heavy, Fast, Chunky? How was the neck? Are the controls easy to get to while playing? |
| The neck is almost a rock neck. Very fast, and smooth. Quick sound adjustments on the guitar require using one hand to pull the upper edge away from your chest, a bit, to access the volume and EQ controls - so, mid-son 'on the fly' adjustments are not easy to do. One of the only gripes I can think of. On the other hand, the onboard preamp controls include a tuner, which is a true blessing for the pro player. |
|
| Tone |
| Bright and snappy? Dark and smooth? Were the pickups hot, mellow, thick, thin? |
| The super-shallow bowl will never provide the natural 'cajones' of a full dreadnaught or jumbo. It was never intended for that. However, it's perfectly adequate for serenading a few friends in your living room. I've even jammed with my buddy who was playing his martin, and I was able to be heard. |
|
| Finish |
| How did the stain or paint job look? |
| The finish, with the multiple-epaulet sound holes is very cool, and I get compliments on it all the time. |
|
| Action |
| How was the action out of the box? |
| Needed some setting up from my local luthier. But now is 'sweet'... |
