Product Description

The next generation of Peavey’s ValveKing series provides the same boutique quality and incredible prices with some exciting new features! The ValveKing Micro-Head is ideal for players who want a low wattage, versatile amp with great tone. Two EL84 power tubes and three 12AX7 preamp tubes produce 20 watts of power while a variable power switch gives you the option of 5-watts or 1-watt.

For the recording musician, the Peavey ValveKing II Micro-Head features a USB direct recording output, which pipes the mic'ed amp vibe directly into a computer. On the rear panel, the built-in Peavey MSDI (Microphone Simulated Direct Interface) XLR direct interface eliminates the need for miking by allowing users to send the amp's signal directly to a recording device or mixing console.

When we designed the first ValveKing amps we knew we wanted that elite feel and high-end build quality of a boutique amp in an amp that most working guitarists could afford,’ notes Peavey CEO Hartley Peavey. ‘We also wanted it to be that rugged, go-to amp that guitarists can't wait to plug into. Cool Low Watt Amp with Plenty of Gain
General
Your general opinion of this product.
It is a cool amp! It has a nice clean channel with a beautiful reverb. It has tons of gain with a boost that sends the distortion over the top. The ability to drop the wattage from 20w to 5w and 1w make it very versatile. I was considering the Marshall DSL40C but walked over to this hooked up to a 4x12 cab and thought it sounded just as good plus the reverb on the DSL was almost non-existent. This amp lacks the umph of the higher power heads and even the Hughes & Kettner 18w. It sounds a little thin. If the varitube is set in the middle and the bass is set fairly high it sounds a little balsier. For the most part it has great tone and is very fun to play.
Quality
Would you consider this product to be made well? How dependable?
Got a dent-n-scratch and there isn't anything wrong with it.
Tone
Bright and snappy? Dark and smooth? Were the pickups hot, mellow, thick, thin?
Thin tone that needs to be dialed in but it sounds like a tube amp. The gain is aggressive and mean. Might sound a little beafier with a Tube Screamer style pedal with a fat switch or bass boost.
Finish
How did the stain or paint job look?
Looks cool but kind of cheap compared to other mini or micro heads such as the Marshall or the Hughes & Kettner.
Reliability
How has it stood up over time?
It will probably do just fine.
