The Planet Waves Circuit Breaker plug has fail-safe operation to save your equipment from loud pops and squeals when you change guitars with a live amp. When the button is pushed, the cable shorts while remaining plugged into your guitar, making on-stage guitar changes a snap, and eliminating any chance of sound bursts. Once the cable is shorted, remove the cable from the guitar being used and plug the cable into the next instrument. Press the button again to re-activate the cable signal.

Many shorting plugs include springs that disconnect the signal after removing the plug from the guitar. These springs can wear over time resulting in malfunction and possibly damage to your equipment. Planet Waves Circuit Breaker Instrument Cable will save your equipment from loud pops and squeals while changing guitars with a live amp. When the button is pushed, the cable shorts while remaining plugged in your guitar, making on-stage guitar changes a snap, and eliminating any chance of sound bursts. No. The compression spring will actually increase the life of your jack by providing a better connection. Planet Waves’ engineering staff has conducted test after test, jamming the plug into and out of guitar jacks for thousands of cycles, and no damage was caused to the jack or the connector.

Subject:Wouldn't want to play without it
Quality: I have owned this cable for several years now, use it several times a week, and have had no problems. I bought it when it first came out, and wouldn't go back to a regular cable.
Features: The switch is the main feature, and that's what makes it different. The compression springs and the gold contacts are also great features. Lasts long and won't easily get pulled out of your instrument or amp.
Ease of Use: Can't be any simpler than pushing a switch. Great for active guitars and basses, just disconnect the switch between sets and at practices and your batteries last much longer. Makes switching instruments a breeze. You don't have to get the soundman's attention first to mute your channel, just push the switch, change guitars, and push again.
Value: Price seems OK for the convenience and quality you get. It's not cheap, but it isn't highly overpriced like some other cables out there. I have used Planet wave cables exclusively for the past 5 years or so. Haven't had to replace one yet. Beats replacing or fixing cables every few months, like with cheaper cables.
