PreSonus Eureka Pro Recording Channel Strip Microphone Preamp

The PreSonus Eureka is a professional recording channel strip containing a discrete class A transformer-coupled microphone preamplifier, FET compressor, and three-band parametric equalizer.
The microphone preamplifier features variable input impedance so that the Eureka can be matched and "tuned" for all types of microphones and recording applications. The Class A transformer-coupled microphone preamplifier also features "SATURATE" which adjusts the drain current on the input FET amplifier to simulate of the effects of tape saturation and tube "warmth".

The Eureka's ultra fast FET compressor has both soft and hard knee compression as well as a separate make up gain stage and hi-pass side chain compression to deliver hard pumping to ultra transparent compression and everything in between. The Eureka's three-band fully parametric EQ gives you variable Q (bandwidth) on each band as well as an EQ pre COMP switch to put the EQ before the Compressor in the signal path. The equalizer has overlapping frequency selection on each band for total tonal control and shaping.

The Eureka is loaded with microphone, line and instrument input so you can use it as a front end preamplifier for recording with microphones, guitars, keyboards, synths as well as a compressor/equalizer on a single channel during mixdown. The Eureka also has balanced send and return jacks so that you can insert your favorite outboard processor before the compressor/EQ to further enhance and customize your sound.

The Eureka gives you the sonic performance and control you need in the real-world to produce professional quality audio that you, your customers and your fans deserve!

QUALITY:
The tube is world class. The Eureka gives you the compressor on board with all the options you need.

FEATURES:
It features and option called Independence that option is a must have and it wont blow your mic. This option makes lesser mics sound great. The knobs are small and that metalic colors is a killer when working in light its hard to even up.

EASE OF USE:
very easy to use for producer that know what the option are. For begginners just use your ears and train yourself could take some time.

VALUE:
For the price this a must have for producer that heavy in the game your need about six of them and for the price WOW what a beautiful thing.

SOUND:
Great I'm blown away the sound is hott, it gets the home Studio to the level of professional labs.

The Eureka seems to be a solid piece of gear but I hate to think what might happen if you ever needed service for it. What I think about their customer service is below.

Good sound adds nice warmth on R&B vocals

Subject:WOW ! Natural ....clean ......prestine
Overall: The pre arrived this weekend. I tracked vocals on it as well as saxophone. This box is sounds wonderful ! Crystal clear in your face sound. The stereo image is fat no need to efx. Dry tracks sound like a million bucks. Very pleased. I read some reviews where studio owners compared it to the Avalon and thought well probably stretched a little. No this box is a contender and don't let the price fool you.

QUALITY:
The first one I got had some screwed up knobs that would not turn. Dealer exchanged for a new one. Physically, the unit is sturdy and solid.

FEATURES:
It is nice to have a decent pre, compressor & eq in one unit. It is not loaded with useless toys, it has what I want without the foo foo stuff.

EASE OF USE:
The manual is very general, suggested settings are useful but you need to experiment. I made small, incremental adjustments on each circuit and took notes. I recorded short, 10 bits and listened carefully until I got what I wanted. I played around for about three or four hours just figuring out settings for voice only. The knobs are a bit small. The printing is too small and difficult to read.

VALUE:
Pay more? Who in their right mind wants to pay more for anything? After messing around and experimenting, I have my unit figured out well enough to use productively. I tried a couple of competitor
