Product Description

With a huge range of tones and a stunning appearance, the PRS Paul Reed Smith Studio 10 Top 2013 Electric Guitar is designed to be a workhorse both on stage and in the studio. With a 22 fret, 25 inch scale length design, the Studio guitar is a modern instrument with classic touches. This PRS Studio features a gorgeous 10 Top flame maple top which is hand selected by PRS for its tight grain and no ‘dead spots’.

PRS’s proprietary Narrowfield pickups in the middle and bass positions in conjunction with a 57/08 humbucking bridge pickup give the Studio 10 Top remarkable versatility from classic to modern tones. Screaming lead tones, crisp rhythm tones and 5-way blade switch also enhance the flexibility of this guitar in the studio or on stage. Other features include mahogany back and neck, V12 finish, rosewood fretboard, comfortable pattern thin neck shape and push/pull tone controls.

nothing like the 1980's guitar !
General
What is your overall opinion of this product?
First off, the reason I bought this guitar, is that in the '80's, I fell immediately in love with every aspect of the PRS guitars ! I wanted to finally splurge, and get the guitar I had been dreaming of, this was not it ! I carefully unboxed it, carefully sat it in my lap, put my hand to the neck, and even before I tuned it, my heart dropped ! This is not what I was ordering ! I tuned it anyways. The neck felt cheap, and uncomfortable ! Not like the ones I played when they were introduced at all ! The original ones made your hand not want to ever leave it ! I hated to put them down ! I had never, ever, felt like that towards a guitar ! Yes I've owned gibson, nice, but thick, and heavy. Jackson, a thin, sleek, fast neck, I could go on, and on, but none, ever compared to the PRS's ! The sound is not as a wide variance as the reviews state. I also bought a Ktone, gibson hollowbody copy for 115.00 bucks, for my daughter, and it has impressed me more than the over 3000.00 dollar PRS !
Quality
What is your opinion of the quality of this product? How does it work for different genres of music?
Upon first taking it from the package, it has 4, or 5, scuff marks on the upper rear of the body, they will not come out, permanently in the finish, arrrrgg ! It looks beautiful from a distance, body feels pretty good in your lap, and for playability. The finish will probably get marks on it just from looking at it ! Way too thin of finish ! This is something to put in a controled enviroment case, not to be played !
Feel
Heavy, fast, chunky? How was the neck? Are the controls easy to get to while playing?
The wieght was fine, the neck felt like a few hundred dollar guitar. Have not wanted to play it since the first tuning, and 10-15 min. Testing, lightly, as to not cause any ware at all. I immediately checked it's detailing on it's finish, "careful to as not leave the slightest reference to it being touched by human hands", and put it back in the case, then back in the shipping boxes. There it has steyed, much to my Disappointment, and discuss of spending so much, on so little attachment !
Tone
How is the tone? Bright and snappy? Dark and smooth? Were the pickups hot, mellow, thick or thin?
The hardware, no doubt, had been given much thought, or I would like to think so, although, for the most part, was not as much variation as was stated in reviews, or my expectations. I believe that the mass manufacturing of this new guitar, no matter how much attention was payed to detail, has killed everything that made PRS famous, and highly spoke of by myself, and thousands more who played the real thing in the '80's.
Finish
How did the stain or paint job look?
Finish looks absolutely gorgeous, given it wasn't my first, or second choice in colors, but had 4, or 5, small scuff marks on the upper, rear of the body. It also looked like someone must have gave it a light cleaning, which left light swirls in the front body's finish, possibly light dust in cloth used.this new finish is not one to last, but I fear will quickly beruined, even with the utmost care taken in it's use ! Do not buy, unless you are going to place it immediately in a glass case, for looks only, it will not retain it's finish, therefore it's resale value.
Value
Did you get what you were expecting for the price? How does it compare to similar products in the same price range?
Not worth the money for playing, but if you want something for an encased display only, still not worth over 3000.00 at it's cheapest available retail cost !
Playability
How was the action out of the box?
The neck was very disapointing ! It felt nothing like the '80's guitars when they came out, given it was supposed to have so much thought put into it. The overall playability of this guitar is of mid, to upper mid playability. Definitely not worth half of it's cost ! I truly don't know what I'm going to do with this guitar, other than put it away, never to play it, as I have a good dozen that I would rather play, just for the pure enjoyment of them, over the PRS ! I know it will never relly gain it's worth, due to being massed produced, so it's a big loss of funds, just to put in storage. A big waste of over $3000.00 bucks ! Will never buy a PRS without playing it first again, "Never" !!
