PreSonus TubePre 1 Channel Mic Preamp w/VU MeterThe PreSonus TubePre is a single channel preamp based on a 12AX7 vacuum tube circuit that provides a stable, transformer-free signal path. The TubePre can be used as the first stage of a live or studio system, as a mic preamp or direct box. The dual-servo gain stage design employs no capacitors providing ultra-low noise performance and wide dynamic control that allows the TubePre to boost the desirable signal without increasing unwanted background noise.
The TubePre offers an astonishing frequency range of 10Hz to 80kHz with a noise floor of 94dBu and a signal-to-noise ratio of greater than 90dB. This means the TubePre can provide both a high-quality, crystal clear sound as well as a colored saturation tube effect.
Other features on the TubePre include 48v phantom power for condenser microphones, phase revere, 20dB Pad and 80Hz rumble filter. PreSonus TubePre Features

| This unit has many fine features for the price.
It is clean, quiet and has a pleasing sound as
a instrument preamp. I found it to sound quite
good on direct bass and guitar. I did not think
it worked as well as a vocal mic preamp. On the
bass it adds punch and growl, it fattens up guitars, but on vocals it seemed a bit mushy.
I have not tried it on drums. It has some
cost cutting shortcomings, such as no front panel
inputs, no interanl power supply and no on/off
switch. These problems aside, it is easy to use,
has nice features like phantom power, a pad
switch, phase reversal and a 80hz roll off.
You can use it like a direct box to feed the same
signal to the board and an amp, so it's ideal for
bass. For the price of a cheap direct box you
can have a very nice instrument preamp that looks
pretty cool. | |

| I was totaly shocked by the way my vocals sounded using this. I record into a m-audio sound card 410! My recordings used to sound flat, but the tubepre changed that. I now have a Yamaha mixer and the TubePre, and it's used more than the mixer pre-amps for the sound, it's not just warmer, you can actually hear the frequency response and the voice as 3D ... good for guitars and anything! I mostly record alone, so the one channel is good. Will use the mixer for comapny recordings...;-) | |

| I tested this unit against the ART DPS DI/O and it was like night and day. This unit sounds clean, no noise and nice features for this price. I'm buying another one this week. All the features work great unlike the ART DSP. If your looking for sound quality get this one. If your looking for features get something else. | |

QUALITY: Sounds great, works great. The only down side is the light for the meter started burning out slowly only a couple months after I got the unit... it's been burning down slowly so now you can see the bulb is stil on but brown and barely any light coming from it. Doesn't effect the sound, but the lighted meter definitely helps in a dim studio when you're trying to monitor levels.
FEATURES: Sound, that's what this thing is for, and it's what it does well. Great preamp.
EASE OF USE: Simple as can be. Drive, Gain work together nicely. If you need to Pad down a hot singal, pad it, if you need phantom power, turn it on, etc. EASY.
VALUE: Definitely worth the money, though the burned out Meter light is a bummer.
SOUND: Again, sounds awesome. This and an NT1000 is THE sound I use for my vocals, I bring it to whatever studio I'm recording at, including my own. |
