Subject:Needed tweaking
Quality: Very sturdy and no worries about sitting on it. On the one I got there were burrs around a few of the holes that interfered with the sliding height adjustment. It had problems with the finish on the legs, which made it look like it had been scratched up and poorly repaired. On closer inspection it looks like there was a polyurethane finish or shellac that was dripped on in some areas. Also found a random small hole in the horizontal support that probably doesn't belong there, looked like someone drilled there by accident or the steel was salvaged. The seat is very firm, not that cushion-y. And the stitching of the seat was loose and sticking out in some places, but what do you expect for this price?
Features: it is sturdy. The concept of the folding design is clever. aesthetically it sort of matches the design of my keyboard stand, as compared to a traditional piano bench.
Ease of Use: the height adjustment mechanism still isn't smooth, requires patience and elbow grease. Can be frustrating. At least we don't need to adjust the height that often, since my husband doesn't play the piano much.
Sound:
Action: at first I could hardly get the seat to move up and down, as it seemed to be catching on something. Then I saw that the finish around two of the height adjustment holes was poorly done and so there were small burrs sticking out that were apparently interfering with the movement. I deburred these areas using a dremel, which improved things a lot, but still hit or miss as to whether the seat height adjustment moves smoothly or not. Also, easy to misalign the seat so that it is higher on one side than the other especially when you are having to push the seat hard to get it unstuck. Not the smoothest/easiest mechanism to deal with. The hard plastic bumpers on the bottom are really small so I had to add heavy felt to the feet to protect my floor.
Value: At under $50, can't complain too much. You get what you pay for. Wasn't worth the hassle to send it back, and it'll do for my purposes. At least it is sturdy.
