Best new SS amp available.
General
Your general opinion of this product.
I gave this a 5 star rating, based on SS amps. The RD100 will crush this amp for $300 more. I got this amp mainly because I am lazy.meaning I don't have time during and after the work week to spend tweaking a tube amp to get the tone I want. switching out tubes.and everything else that comes with owning a tube amp.I play in a coverband, and just need something dependable and not high maintenance, which is really I think where SS amps shine. You get more bang for the buck imo. I had been gigging with the 350 watt crate shockwave fom the time it came out until I got this. The Shockwave is actually an Ampeg design and has a tube simulator in it.I believe it to be the best sounding Solid state head ever made.replaced it with this for one reason. The Electronics. and the fact it's 300 watts. The updated FXloop, built in D.I etc.The shockwave loop makes my gt-10 sound like trash using the 4 cable method.so it was time to move on.
Quality
Would you consider this product to be made well? How dependable?
seems well made, although the plug in for the foot pedal seems a little weak and loose to me. The 1/8 media jack is awesome. and the Fortin designed noisegate is a great addon..and youll need It on..because this thing will melt peoples faces off with the master volume on 2, without the noisegate..you will have constant feedback.
Playability and Feel
How does it feel, Heavy, Fast, Chunky? How was the neck? Are the controls easy to get to while playing?
clean channel is great once eq'd. chan 2 is crappy.BUT..if your even looking at this head, your not worried about that channel anyway and your probably going to be playing metal, because channel 3 screams like a banshee. It is a metal machine. This amp is what would happen if the Rg100ES and the Warhead had a child.
Tone
Bright and snappy? Dark and smooth? Were the pickups hot, mellow, thick, thin?
At first I was disappointed,The Shockwave will punch you in the throat as soon as you turn it on. after a lot of knob turning I found a pretty decent tone though. and this thing is LOUD.Once I plugged in my mxr 10 band eq this amp sang like a bird and it came to life.you can get any tone you want from this amp if you plug that mxr into it.the clean channel blew me away after I turned the eq on.
