Roland GR20 Guitar Synthesizer with GK3 Pickup

Roland GR20 Guitar Synthesizer with GK3 Pickup

The Roland GR20 brings a new digital pitch detection technology to this more affordable, easy to use guitar synth/GK3 pickup bundle. You select sounds by category (Strings, Organ, Synth, etc.) and then select your favorite variation. The GR20 sounds great and tracks faster and more accurately than any of its predecessors. Editing is not as deep as the GR33 (which offers more individualized control over each string) but you do get some easy to use parameters with Attack, Release, Chorus, and Delay/Reverb knobs.

The Roland GR20 has a sound set that is brand new and uniformly excellent. Many expressive sounds have velocity switching. You will notice that this is the most responsive guitar synth ever.

As for the pickup, the greatly improved GK3 is 30% thinner and a cinch to install. It includes an adjustable curve design to keep an even distance between the strings for better response and a brilliant attachment plate that lets the GK mount right to the bridge screws of Les Paul style guitars. The guitar connection is 1/4 inch to 1/4 inch, and the pick up wire retracts for a neat installation. A new streamlined profile invites you to place the GR next to your GT6 and use Patch Link to line up your sounds.

Roland GR20 Features
  • Affordable guitar synthesizer with new sounds, easy interface and GK-3 pickup
  • Easy to use: select a sound category (Strings, Organ, Synth, etc.) and play!
  • Quick editing via Attack, Release, Chorus, and Delay/Reverb knobs
  • Digital pitch detection for lightning-fast tracking
  • Includes Roland’s latest sounds like sax, strings, flute, brass, bass and percussion loops
  • GK3 mounts easily on any steel-stringed electric without damage to guitar
  • GK3 features an adjustable curve design and pickup cable length, plus an attachment plate for Les Paul-type guitars
  • Patch Link enables easy connection with MIDI-capable multi-effects like the GT-6

Guitar Synth, or Compact Pedal?
With the Roland GR20 it feels like both. Simply attach the included GK-3 Divided Pickup to your guitar and you can be playing high-quality Roland sounds in seconds. Selecting a sound is like choosing an effect. First, select a sound category using the Bank knob. Categories include Strings/Orchestral, Wind, Brass, Bass/Guitar, Organ/Keyboard, Piano, Synth/Lead, Voice/Pad, Ethnic, and Rhythm/Percussion. Now you can select individual sounds using the Number/Value dial. It’s easy!

Roland’s Finest Sounds with Exceptional Tracking
At the heart of the GR20 is an advanced sound engine based on Roland’s professional synthesizers. Sounds can be played with up to 48-voice polyphony for full, rich-sounding Patches. And the sounds are equally impressive. From expressive string ensembles to spiritual tabla loops coupled with sitar—all with adjustable attack and release—there’s no limit to what you can do. Sophisticated DSP makes the GR20’s pitch detection ultra-reliable, so you can strum with confidence.

Take Your Guitar Playing Further
Want to create a sound that’s all your own? Try blending the natural sound of your guitar pickups with the GR20. Thankfully, the GK3 Divided Pickup makes this easy via a larger and smoother GK knob. Imagine playing chords and then slowly fading in a swirling, breathy pad to create intensity. Or how about playing a distorted lead on your guitar with a thick synth lead sound? Now take this a step further with the GR20’s Patch Link function. This allows you to easily assign GR20 Patches to match effect Patches in MIDI-capable processors like the BOSS GT6. It’s the ultimate system for serious guitarists.

Includes the New GK3 Divided Pickup
When you buy a GR20, you also get a GK3 Divided Pickup and GK cable in the box. In other words, everything you need to start playing synth sounds is included!

Overall:

QUALITY:
Great little unit, very durable construction and the expression pedal hasn't given any issues either

FEATURES:
I do like the felt covering on the GK3 pick up so it dosen't hurt my finish on my guitar, Personally I liked the patches but I thats my opionion there isn't much editing either on this unit but if I wanted to do that I would rather purchase the GR33 or the other higher end models which would have allowed me to do that. Still thinking of upgarding though

EASE OF USE:
Very easy to use. I'm still a little unsure about the panning/stereo signal and how that affects mixing sounds inside patches. Manual's pretty good for teaching how to use it, but little on troubleshooting your pickup and guitar relationship also if you want to do any editing that DOES take a little time, but no one ever learns to walk on the first day they were born either

VALUE:
As always would be nice if it was less expensive but you

QUALITY:
Like all other Roland products I have owned, this unit seems well built and solid. All switches and controls are top quality and functional.

FEATURES:
The variety of sound samples in this unit is incredible, and the functions of the divided pickup put your imagination at your fingertips. I have always dreamed of having all these sounds available, and roland has included patches which go far beyond what I would evere expect. Just the Sitar presets in the Ethnic bank alone are worth the money paid for the GR20. This thing is only limited by the imagination of the user. It has opened new doors for me.

EASE OF USE:
Roland states the importance of properly installing and adjusting the GK3 Divided Pickup for optimum performance. I took them at their word and had it installed by a professional guitar tech. Although the directions say you can do it yourself, I prefer to take no chances. The use of the finished product is easy and s

The conrols seem to be sturdy, easy to use. Overall construction is good, the plastic case seems like it will take some punishment without any major problems. It is put together well and the layout is good. With reasonable care it should last several years. I think the pin connector and cable could be of better quality.

FEATURES:
Best feature is 1000 pounds of instruments in a 1 pound box. The versatility of this synth is amazing. Just a flip of a dial and you won't believe what comes out of your amp. The only improvement I would recommend would be a sturdy case to carry it in. I purchased a Samsonite lap top case for mine and it fits perfectly with the cables and wall-wart and room for manuals and music, etc.

EASE OF USE:
When I first got it, I read the manual first, then installed the GK3 pickup on my guitar and plugged it in. The next thing I knew it was 4 hours later. I was completely mesmerized by the sounds I
