Roland GR20 Guitar Synthesizer with GK3 Pickup

The Roland GR20 brings a new digital pitch detection technology to this more affordable, easy to use guitar synth/GK3 pickup bundle. You select sounds by category (Strings, Organ, Synth, etc.) and then select your favorite variation. The GR20 sounds great and tracks faster and more accurately than any of its predecessors. Editing is not as deep as the GR33 (which offers more individualized control over each string) but you do get some easy to use parameters with Attack, Release, Chorus, and Delay/Reverb knobs.

The Roland GR20 has a sound set that is brand new and uniformly excellent. Many expressive sounds have velocity switching. You will notice that this is the most responsive guitar synth ever.

As for the pickup, the greatly improved GK3 is 30% thinner and a cinch to install. It includes an adjustable curve design to keep an even distance between the strings for better response and a brilliant attachment plate that lets the GK mount right to the bridge screws of Les Paul style guitars. The guitar connection is 1/4 inch to 1/4 inch, and the pick up wire retracts for a neat installation. A new streamlined profile invites you to place the GR next to your GT6 and use Patch Link to line up your sounds.

Guitar Synth, or Compact Pedal?
With the Roland GR20 it feels like both. Simply attach the included GK-3 Divided Pickup to your guitar and you can be playing high-quality Roland sounds in seconds. Selecting a sound is like choosing an effect. First, select a sound category using the Bank knob. Categories include Strings/Orchestral, Wind, Brass, Bass/Guitar, Organ/Keyboard, Piano, Synth/Lead, Voice/Pad, Ethnic, and Rhythm/Percussion. Now you can select individual sounds using the Number/Value dial. It’s easy!

Roland’s Finest Sounds with Exceptional Tracking
At the heart of the GR20 is an advanced sound engine based on Roland’s professional synthesizers. Sounds can be played with up to 48-voice polyphony for full, rich-sounding Patches. And the sounds are equally impressive. From expressive string ensembles to spiritual tabla loops coupled with sitar—all with adjustable attack and release—there’s no limit to what you can do. Sophisticated DSP makes the GR20’s pitch detection ultra-reliable, so you can strum with confidence.

Take Your Guitar Playing Further
Want to create a sound that’s all your own? Try blending the natural sound of your guitar pickups with the GR20. Thankfully, the GK3 Divided Pickup makes this easy via a larger and smoother GK knob. Imagine playing chords and then slowly fading in a swirling, breathy pad to create intensity. Or how about playing a distorted lead on your guitar with a thick synth lead sound? Now take this a step further with the GR20’s Patch Link function. This allows you to easily assign GR20 Patches to match effect Patches in MIDI-capable processors like the BOSS GT6. It’s the ultimate system for serious guitarists.

Includes the New GK3 Divided Pickup
When you buy a GR20, you also get a GK3 Divided Pickup and GK cable in the box. In other words, everything you need to start playing synth sounds is included!

Subject:Not good for fast leaks.
Quality: Quality is more than good for the price.
Sound: Piano tones are not playable on regular tempo songs. You will experience bending sounds whenever you play speed notes.
Reliability: I returned the item so I can't tell about reliability.
Overall: The sounds and variety are pretty good but the action is far from being something you could use for speed leak performance. It's OK if you just need ballad effects or slow passe melodies.
Playability and Feel: Easy to use one sound at a time. Combining sounds is not so easy.
Tone: Overall tone is pretty good for the price.
Finish: Finish is good and has a very professional look.
Action: Plug and play kind of gear but installing the pickup is pretty difficult and the installation manual is not too helpful.
