SuperNATURAL Power

In fact, you can conveniently import the Jupiter 80’s Live Sets into the Jupiter 50 via USB flash memory. To achieve the same supreme sound quality as the Jupiter 80, the Jupiter 50 keyboard employs the identical analog audio components as its big brother, including the high-resolution D/A converter.

Essential Sounds Onboard
The Roland Jupiter 50 is packed with over 1,500 SuperNATURAL synthesizer tones, plus over 70 SuperNATURAL acoustic instruments, each with its own dedicated sound engine. Choose, stack and edit any combination of four tones to create custom Live Sets.
  • For live performers: There’s a treasure trove of essential stage sounds packed into the Roland Jupiter 50 synth, anchored by our famous SuperNATURAL piano and electric pianos. Authentic organs are included as well, derived from our acclaimed VK organ sound engine, with a dedicated front-panel button that provides instant access to rotary effects.
  • For synth lovers: Choose from over 1,500 SuperNATURAL synthesizer tones and stack four of them to create a powerful Live Set. Classic synth sounds include analog favorites such as the Roland SH and Jupiter brass, plus digital sounds from the D-50, JD-800, and Fantom. Combine them with the SuperNATURAL acoustic instruments to create your own expressive, modern sounds.
  • For film composers: Expressive classical and ethnic instruments are at your immediate access for composition, from erhu, sitar, and flamenco guitar to timpani and oboe. Thanks to Behavior Modeling technology, the Roland Jupiter 50 synthesizer translates your keyboard performance into the unique musical nuances of each modeled instrument.

Complex sounds don’t have to be complicated to program. The Roland Jupiter 50 simplifies the sound-design process with its color-coded front panel, fast-access buttons and sliders, and Registration/Live Set architecture (128 Registrations, 2,560 Live Sets) logically categorized and instantly available.

You can even simultaneously record your performances on the keyboard along with audio file playback from USB.

High-Performance Effects
The Jupiter 50 synth boasts an advanced effects engine that takes your sounds into another dimension. There are five types of pro-grade reverb algorithms onboard, plus dozens of other special effects (MFX). You can select from five MFX structures that let you place up to four effects in parallel and/or serial paths; using these structures, you can take full advantage of the Roland Jupiter 50’s powerful collection of effects to create intense electro-synth sounds, intricate ambient synth textures, and beyond.

Overall Rating
Ease of Use
Another classic in the Jupiter series!
What is your overall opinion of this product?
I was skeptical surrounding all the hype about this synthesizer. But, the Jupiter 50 lives up to the other great line of Roland synthesizers in the Jupiter series.
What is your opinion of the quality of this product? How does it work for different genres of music?
I was amazed at how light this keyboard was. You can stack it on a multi-tiered keyboard stand and not worry about it tipping over. I read a lot of complaints about the lack of aftertouch, but I didn't find that a problem. If you can play well then it doesn't matter. This synth is perfect for any genre of music.
Ease of Use
How user friendly is it? Would it work well for a beginner, intermediate or experienced player?
This keyboard is very easy to learn. If you're a beginner or seasoned player, it doesn't require you to bury your face in the manual. You can take it out of the box and start jamming. i owned a Korg Kronos 61 and that drove me crazy trying to learn all of the features on it. That's why I got rid of it.
Are the features on the product what you were expecting? What are your favorite features?
The only feature that the Jupiter 50 is lacking is a sequencer. But, if you have a DAW or portable recorder then you should be fine. Sonar LE is included with this synth. It sucks for me because I own an Apple. But, I have Cubase so I'm okay. The Jupiter 50 does have a song player/recorder feature which allows you to playback or record songs you create. All you need is a USB flash drive. If you're looking for a workstation, this isn't the synth for. This is a performance keyboard, which requires you to know how to play. I love the ability to tweak the sounds and shape them to how you like. I love being able to layer and split the keyboard then chose the sounds you want. It doesn't have a large LED screen, or computer graphics with color, but it's very easy to read the lettering. If you're into color graphics and a computer monitor LED, then go pay all of your hard earned money on the crappy, overpriced Kronos.
How is the sound quality? How does the sound compare to other products you've use?
I was really amazed at the sound quality. I'm a tone snob and I'm very picky about the sound quality of my instruments. I was worried about Roland's SuperNatural acoustic and synth tones. The sounds from this synth blew me away. The Jupiter 50 is comparable to the long line of other Jupiter synths. I owned the Korg Kronos and was extremely disappointed with their 9 engine sound synthesis. The Jupiter 50 beats the Kronos hands down!
How is the feel of the keys? Are the controls laid out well?
I love the feel of the keys on this synth. They're not too small, or too springy. I could play this all day and not worry about getting hand cramps. The controls are just like the all the other Jupiter keyboards. So, if you ever own a Jupiter in the past, or ever played one you should be alright.
Did you get what you were expecting for the price? How does it compare to similar products in the same price range?
I got what I was looking for and more. I love the look and feel of this synthesizer. It has a retro look with modern features. I love the sounds of this synth. Compared to other more expensive and big name companies, this synth is much better in my opinion. I don't want a synth or keyboard with a million features and are difficult to operate. All I care about is the sounds. That's what I want in a synthesizer or keyboard. I want something that inspires me to play and create imaginative sounds. I want a keyboard that has substance and character. Not something that just looks good.
