Concept #1: If you want the best sounding speaker system you need to start with the best sounding components. For this, Samson had Celestion custom design a super heavy-duty 15" driver and combined it with a super smooth titanium diaphragm HF driver. Concept #2: You can never have enough power. Samson packed the dB500 with a Class H power amp that pumps 400 watts RMS to the 15" and a separate Class AB power amp delivers a clean 100 watts RMS to the HF driver. Samson's exclusive Optimax multi-band limiter makes sure that you get great sound at any level. Concept # 3: A speaker cabinet needs to be just about indestructible but light enough to carry with one hand, flyable, poleable and monitorable (2 new words for the audio dictionary). The dB500 is all this featuring a reinforced molded cabinet design with steel grills, three padded handles, eight flypoints, an integral pole mount, and angled sides for use as a wedge monitor. Concept #4: You can never have enough control. The dB500 back panel features a dedicated XLR mic input and a line level XLR and 1/4" combo input all with level controls, an XLR line level output, 2-band EQ, a switchable limiter and low pass filter, and signal sensing auto-turn on and off. Concept #5: You can never sound TOO good. The Samson dB500 just might.
Inside Samson's rigid custom designed cabinet is a 15" driver designed exclusively for this project. It's matched with a new 1.75" Neodymium high frequency driver, aimed through a 1" diameter horn. The dB500a features 500 watts of Class H power (400 watts low frequency/100 watts high frequency) and has a crossover designed for high SPL. Samson's exclusive Optimax™ signal processing circuitry provides total speaker protection but won't cut the low end at high volumes, as similar speakers with sliding filters do.
The back panel has a built-in mixer-like preamp section with mic and line inputs, XLR connectors and level controls. Controls for the selectable low pass filter and Optimax processing are also included.
The dB500a speaker cabinet features an array of mounting options. Designed with floor monitoring in mind, they are also easily stacked or permanently installed. A 1 3/8" pole receptacle is built in, and 10 reinforced fly points are available.
