| Quality |
| Would you consider this product to be made well? How dependable? |
| Out of the box this guitar feels solid, plays well, and compares favorably to much more expensive guitars with similar features. The set neck with easy access joint is an incredible feature at this price point in an 8 string. My only complaint was the nut wasn't glued down so when changing the strings the first time it fell off. That was a quick fix. |
|
| Reliability |
| How has it stood up over time? |
| I don't put my guitars through much abuse, other than playing rather rough. It's stood up to that quite well. |
|
| General |
| Your general opinion of this product. |
| It's a very sturdy, very playable guitar. The long scale keeps even the low notes snappy and bright. The neck and body both vibrate with every note. The EMGs are thick and toneful both clean and dirty. It's a great guitar, especially at this price. |
|
| Playability and Feel |
| How does it feel, Heavy, Fast, Chunky? How was the neck? Are the controls easy to get to while playing? |
| This guitar is a little heavy, but not unbearably so. The neck is thinner than some other Schecter 8 strings I've played, and fits the hand well. The 28 inch scale was an easy transition from traditional 25.5 inch scale guitars. The control pattern is easy to get at when playing and doesn't seem to interfere when you don't want it to. |
|
| Tone |
| Bright and snappy? Dark and smooth? Were the pickups hot, mellow, thick, thin? |
| EMG 808s seem to get a really bad rap online, but I can't see any real complaints with them. The longer scale and the guitar's construction keeps things nice and bright, and you can mellow things out by pulling back to the neck pickup and rolling the tone back when you need to. Cleans are very full and piano like from the neck, bright and snappy on the bridge. It sounds huge with dirty tones, and I can't seem to hear the mud everyone else says 808s are famous for. I may consider 808x pickups just to see if there's any difference, but I'm very happy with the stock pickups now. |
|
| Finish |
| How did the stain or paint job look? |
| The flat black is very smooth to the touch and doesn't seem to pickup dirt at all. A quick wipe to take off playing sweat after each session and it looks as good as new several weeks later. The bat inlays are a bit cheesy, but for this price point they're tolerable for all the other features you get. The silver binding is unusual and really makes the guitar stand out. The hardware has an unusual sheen that's also very cool. |
|
| Action |
| How was the action out of the box? |
| The guitar played well out of the box but after a slight truss rod tweak it was heavenly. I've since changed strings to a balanced set with heavier bottom strings and made some minor bridge adjustments. It's has all the adjustability you could need and is extremely easy to work with even if you're not an expert at guitar maintenance, so nobody should fear getting it and changing the setup to suit themselves. |
