Product Description

Though it is one gorgeous looking guitar, the Hellraiser Hybrid C-1 FR is a serious player! The black chrome hardware combines with the carbon fiber multi-ply binding and MOP fingerboard inlays to give a distinct, yet understated look. EMG 57 and EMG 66 are incredibly versatile with unmistakable PAF-like tone. A Floyd Rose 1000 tremolo system and gorgeous quilted maple top put the finishing touches on the axe.

Surprising, not what I expected, but great!
General
What is your overall opinion of this product?
The first thing, this is a really, really thin neck, and narrow too, maybe a mm narrower than an SG. The action and string tension seems tight, which is good. The truth is it's probably a little more precision made than my playing, which will make me play more accurately. I have had three C1's and this guitar is less forgiving than the regular and premium C1's. The guitar was set up perfectly, but it was a little sharp, due to the locking nut pieces. I will see how it works without the locking nut pieces to allow for alt tunings. I'll probably also tune it down to D or E flat, and I'll readjust the intonation. Should be great. Pickups totally surprising, first actives I've ever tried that have better than decent, actually good clean tone, and when cranked they're good for metal. Will try an EMG 81TW in bridge soon, that should be interesting, but will probably sacrifice good bridge clean tone in HB 2 coil mode. The whammy seems so far better at diving than raising, I'll adjust it.
Quality
What is your opinion of the quality of this product? How does it work for different genres of music?
It is totally versatile, I did not expect that, and the clean tone from the 57/66 pups is way better than I expected. The emphasis is rock and metal, but you could use this for gigging a variety or styles, blues/rock/metal, even country and jazz. I'd say it would work for about any electric guitar genre except surf, lol.
Feel
Heavy, fast, chunky? How was the neck? Are the controls easy to get to while playing?
Feels fast. Thinnest neck out there, but, very narrow too. If you have large hands or big fingers, this may be too small for your hands... I'd go with a regular C1 in that case. If you have medium or smaller hands/fingers, this is great. Really need medium to small hands for this, IMHO. Probably give to my son some day, and get a Loomis, nah, lol, but this is great, we'll see... This axe reminds me of a surgical tool, should rename it "The Scalpel!!"
Tone
How is the tone? Bright and snappy? Dark and smooth? Were the pickups hot, mellow, thick or thin?
It's truly a hybrid, sharp attack, with mid-bass overtones. The clean tone from the 57/66 pups is way better than I expected, and way better than any videos I heard of it (not many out there.) The metal tone is tight and responsive.
Finish
How did the stain or paint job look?
Awesome. The funky binding is really nice to look at.
Value
Did you get what you were expecting for the price? How does it compare to similar products in the same price range?
It's worth the money, it's built like a premium guitar, as in 2k up...
Playability
How was the action out of the box?
The action is good. It's tighter than what I usually like, I'm going to tune it down 1 or two steps, reset it, should loosen up a little. If it doesn't work out I'll just go back to E. It shipped with a precision, tight, low action. Haven't quite ever felt one like this before... It's a formidable axe... Get one!!!
