More DVD and company information...
Secrets of the Pros, Inc. was started by me, Ken Walden, and the first product is a 2 DVD set titled The Basics of Modern Recording and Mixing.

I saw a need in the music industry for a fast and easy way to show musicians, songwriters, and anyone getting into recording the basics of how most professionals work. I found most of the other materials (books, etc&) were far too technical and never showed you industry standard methods for setting up your studio, recording, and mixing, (and there are some very standard ways of working in the "real" world). My DVD shows you the way most professionals work, and then some.

Ken's Info:
I've spent my life working in the audio industry and was lucky (well, lucky and I worked really hard, and spent all my time and money on making music) to work with some of the best producers, engineers, and artists in the music industry. I have worked with bands like Santana, Metallica, John Lee Hooker, Booker T. Jones, Jade, and Sammy Hagar, to name a few. I have also worked on a variety of different types of music: Rap, R&B, Funk, Rock, etc..

The most recent credit I received was a "special thanks" on Santana's "Shaman" record. This was for helping out with numerous technical issues during the making of this album.

I played in several bands early in my music/audio career and when it came time to get a demo together I did my best to learn about recording, but our early tracks sounded pretty bad. Most musicians I know have struggled with this problem. After taking an audio engineering class in college a professor told me I was talented and suggested I pursue audio engineering, so I sent out resumes to several studios in the San Francisco Bay Area. One thing led to another and before I knew it I was working with some of the biggest names in the Music Industry. After years of engineering at The Plant Studios in Sausalito I went to work for Digidesign. This was back in the early years of digital recording. It was exciting to see digital recording and Pro Tools go from being an esoteric editing program to a world-class recording, editing, and mixing program. The best thing about this revolution is that now anyone can get their hands on professional tools that can make great sounding records.

More about the DVD
To create the DVD, I've taken all the techniques and tricks I learned from working with the best engineers, producers, and artists in the business, and combined them with everything I absorbed during my nine years of experience as a Tech and Product Specialist for Digidesign. I've distilled this information into three hours of material specifically designed to give you the most important knowledge you need to make professional sounding recordings.

If you and I were close friends and you asked me to teach you about making records & this is what I would show you. Also, this is the info I wish someone taught me when I started in the world of recording.
