Seymour Duncan SFX01 Pickup Booster Pedal

The first effects pedal designed specifically to work together with the pickups in your instrument to achieve optimum gain and resonance for all your tonal applications. Turn the knob to dial in pure, flat-EQ gain, ranging from 6dB, all the way to an astonishing 25dB! In addition, the Pickup Booster can add thickness to a single coil pickup. By engaging the Resonance Switch, the resonant peak of a single coil pickup can be lowered, making a Strat® pickup sound similar to a vintage humbucker or even a high-output humbucker.

Subject:S.Duncan Pick Up Booster........the Tonal/Thinking
Overall:

QUALITY:
Great tone enhancer, depending where you put it in your signal chain. It's the first thing my guitar plugs in to. In this area, it's great to use for tonal enhancement.....this is where I have fun in my tonal play ground!

FEATURES:
Simple just plug in a twist and turn the knob and flick the switch , experiment to your liking.

EASE OF USE:
Just read the above "Features" section. Put it infront of your pedal board and use it to make your guitar more sensitive to the volume and tone knobs from you guitar.

VALUE:
A valuable guitar tool!

SOUND:
Makes the guitar more sensitive to the volume/tone knobs when plugged in the front of signal chain. Or as I plan on putting it in the effects loop of my Digitech RP-1 to kick my guitar solos up in volume , with out the idiot sound guy sabbotaging my solo section.

QUALITY:
Excellent, very solid, made of metal, has a great under side rubber "no-slip" pad

FEATURES:
Very Simple features, a single knob controls the amount of gain, it can reach up to 25 db

EASE OF USE:
Very easy, there's a 1/4 inch in and a 1/4 inch out and a single knob

VALUE:
$75 dollars is about average price for most pedals, but DEFINETLY worth the money for anyone who truly wants a great sound. This pedal is used by 99% of every MAJOR band.

SOUND:
Sounds great. i Use a Marshall DSL 2000 100 watt. I had trouble getting a "big" sound from it and i was told the Pickup booster might help. With this single pedal i can get a MESA type distortion that at 25 db would leave Slayer jealous

Subject:Loud with subtle tone change
Quality: Yes, built strong.
Reliability: Too new to tell.
Overall: Good boost. Can't tell much difference between the 1 and 3 positions. Ran a Tele and Strat thru it. I wish the input/output jacks were positioned like Boss pedals, to make more consistant with other pedals I have.
Playability and Feel: Feel good, beefy.
Tone: Gives some extra crunch when on boost.
Finish: Noce looks.
Action: Seems to work smoothly, but I wish there were a little more movement on the pickup selector; you need only move switch about 1/8 inch to change setting; very small amount of travel.
Skill Level: Semi-Pro

Overall:

QUALITY:
Outside is built like a tank, All metal and a carling switch. The curcuit is surface mount, I would have liked lead thru.

FEATURES:
The best feature it has is few features. Plug in twist and go. No Op amps in it, Transistors like the vintage pedals.

EASE OF USE:
Like I said plug and go.

VALUE:
I think it is a good value. Built well and a very transparent boost.

SOUND:
I think it shines when pushing the front end of a tube amp. Does not color the sound, just a nice powerfull kick. I put this in front of my 18Watt marshall, Rock and roll heaven!

STYLE:
Blues/rock

MUSIC EXPERIENCE:
Semi pro. Have opened for big names.

OVERALL:
A very cost effective alternative to the 4558 based pedals that have skyrocketed in price.

Subject:Useful pedal at times
Overall: This effect makes your single coil guitar sound like a humbucking pickup guitar. The pedal is like the old MXR Micro Amp (Dunlop) which can overdrive an amp and make the pickups sound fuller. This effect is one shot different the pickup selector 1 & 3. The 3 switch makes the single coil pickup sound like a humbucker the 1 switch is rather subtle to my ears. The gain knob makes the pickups sound fuller and can overdrive the amp. The pedal can be useful to some.
