Excellent Snare Drum
Quality
Would you consider this product to be made well? How dependable?
Very well made snare. I've played it for about one month and am very pleased. No problems at all with the quality of this drum. It tuned up really nice without any problems. NOTE: The badge on mine says "Special Edition", which I was hoping for. I believe that Sonor re-badged the "Force 3007" snares and re-released some (maybe all?) of them as the "Black Mamba". I'm not sure if all of these from AMS will be badged as "Special Edition" or "Force 3007" if that is a consideration for you.

Features
What do you consider to be the best features of this product? What features would you add to this product if you could?
Pretty standard snare drum. Nothing too fancy, just a really good sounding snare at a very reasonable price. Could use a better snare strainer lever, but the one it has works fine for now. For comparison, I also have a Tama Metalworks (2009 model) that has a much more robust lever.

Sound
How is the tone?
Really nice sounding snare. I mainly play rock and have it tuned low, for a meaty sound. I currently have an Evans EC2 head on the batter side. I left the stock snare side head on. After extensive research, this was my #2 favorite sounding snare, behind the Mapex Black Panther Phatbob. However, with the HUGE price difference, I was more than OK going with my #2 choice. It has stayed in-tune after my original tuning a month ago (I play approx 8 hrs/wk).

Overall
Your general opinion of this product.
Overall this is a great drum, just due to the sound quality. Add to that the very low price compared to other snares that sound worse and cost much more and you've got a winner.
|
Value
Was this item an overall good value?
Great value. I prefer the sounds you can get from this snare to nearly all of the more expensive snares I researched.

I got the gloss black, but I think both models look great. It's a handsome snare with its unique lugs - I picked the all black model because it matches my kit better.
