Tascam CDGT2 Portable CD Guitar Trainer

The Tascam CDGT2 is the latest introduction in the portable CD trainer line, a product category literally invented by Tascam.
Like the wildly-popular original CDGT1 guitar trainer, musicians have the ability to slow down the speed of a CD without changing the pitch - allowing artists, musicians, students, and music teachers to practice, learn and teach fast licks, rhythm parts and solos from their favorite artists. With its ultra-compact design and new functionality, the new CD trainers from Tascam are the most user-friendly trainers ever. The new CDGT2 guitar trainer completes our all-new lineup of trainers for the, musician, student, teacher and artist on the go.

The CDGT2 guitar trainer features an all new improved ultra compact design, comprehensive LCD display with graphical user interface, Album title/Track title indication by CD-Text, expanded effect banks for user preset, 3 octaves tone oscillator, and Tascam's pioneering VSA (Variable Speed Audition, pitch control without affecting key) feature that lets music fans learn a continuous mix of their favorite songs anywhere they go.

With Tascam's legendary ease of use, pioneering features such as integrated pitch and key control, instrument canceller with selectable canceling pan point and selectable frequency range, and seamless integration with CD-DA/CD-R/CD-RW disc playback. Users can now discover the licks their favorite artist really played.

Subject:Players of all levels will appreciate this little box!
Quality: For nearly $150 bucks I would have liked metal instead of plastic. It feels a little cheap but it has not affected the functionality.
Sound: The sound is cool enough. Hey, it's not the be all end all. After all, it IS a guitar trainer. It has the usual digital drag at slower speeds. The good news is, the CDGT2 does so without changing the pitch.
Reliability: It gets the job done. I have had no problems with it.
Overall: Whether you shred, pick, or slide, this compact little unit is a must have. Learn your favorite licks or review your own. It's portability and extreme ease of use makes it a great addition to any studio or gig bag. I like the fact that it takes a full sized CD. I was not too chipped about the "optional" power supply. You totally need it. That is unless you want to buy batteries all the time. Save them for the road or in a power failure.
Playability and Feel: Buttons are conveniently located, it's light, and super easy to navigate. More time to rock, less time reading a boring manual. You may evn be able to skip that.
Tone: Has decent effects. I got it for practice so it is not overly important to me.
Finish: The red color is cool even if it is molded plastic.
Action: The buttons could have a softer touch.
Skill Level: Semi-Pro
