| Taylor Maintains Course and Delivers! |
| Quality |
| Would you consider this product to be made well? How dependable? |
| Fantastic Quality! It's a Taylor.
Taylor = Quality and Playability.
This beautiful guitar has a Sitka Spruce Top and Ovangkol Body. These are highly desirable woods and match well together.
In fact, Ovangkol is actually a rosewood relative. Therefore, this guitar express similar tonality of a Rosewood model.
I use to own a Taylor 814ce that was sold in order to make a necessary upgrade in my commercial studio.
I do regret it and have for sometime. It had a Sitka Spruce Top and Indian Rosewood body.
However, once I had the opportunity to take advantage of American Musical's multiple payment plan, I no longer have that deep regret for the loss of my 814ce.
This 414ce model does a very good job at replacing that longing desire. |

| General |
| Your general opinion of this product. |
| Five Stars Given for a Five Star Guitar. |
|
| Playability and Feel |
| How does it feel, Heavy, Fast, Chunky? How was the neck? Are the controls easy to get to while playing? |
| The playability is simply amazing. This guitar has an impeccable ability to fit extremely well in the hands of a guitar player.
The weight feels evenly distributed and is not heavy at all. The weight actually feels perfect. In fact, I really don't ever recall thinking this guitar is too light or too heavy.
The neck is what this guitar is about. If you have never owned a Taylor, this is the area that you will notice the biggest difference in. This difference is a very positive one. The Taylor Guitar Company is actually obsessed with necks and you can tell. Their necks are extremely unique, easy to play, maintain incredible consistency, and simply fit in a player's hand, "Like A Glove."
Additionally, The electronics are very easy to access and control. |

| Tone |
| Bright and snappy? Dark and smooth? Were the pickups hot, mellow, thick, thin? |
| The biggest difference between the Taylor 814ce, that I owned, and the 414ce is the tone.
The tone of this particular 414ce is actually quite bright, but consistent. Tone is a personal preference. I personally preferred the tone of the 814ce a little more, due to its overall balance in the frequency spectrum.
HOWEVER, I am NOT complaining at all. This is a small preference. The tone on the 414ce is still impeccable, compared to most guitars out there with a similar tone.
In fact, if you are looking for a very consistent, bright, and detailed tone; this is the guitar for you. It is definitely the king for this kind of tonality.
You can hear every note with great detail and balance.
Bright and Detailed.
This style of tonality is especially good for fingerpicking and soloing. Particular styles that would fit well include:
-Bluegrass (Fast Detailed Picking)
-Country
-Pop
-Rock
-Smooth Jazz (Finger based work and "Snappy Popping") |
|
| Finish |
| How did the stain or paint job look? |
| Very Attractive and "Taylor" Like!
Top Finish - Gloss
Back Side Finish - Satin
Neck Finish - Satin |
|
| Action |
| How was the action out of the box? |
| The action was impeccable out of the box. I usually have all of my guitars professionally set-up after purchase. However, I have not done so with this guitar. In fact, the action was perfect from the start.
Smooth and Fast.
The intonation of the guitar was also impeccable for a "Shipped" guitar. In fact, it was also perfect. Unlike actual music stores where people can play/demo the guitar, this arrived as Taylor intended it to.
This is rare, unless you order direct or online. Otherwise, guitars tend to somewhat be altered in stores. Therefore, possibly requiring new strings, professional set-up, etc. |
