Product Description

The Taylor 514e-FLTD 2013 Fall Limited Acoustic Electric Guitar pairs rare curly Mahogany back and sides with a European Spruce top in Taylor’s signature Grand Auditorium body for a dynamic voice that blends power and warmth. Adirondack Spruce CV bracing and the European Spruce top combine for incredible headroom to support everything from fingerpicking to lively strumming and some of the warmth associated with cedar.

The curly Mahogany’s striking figure is complemented by a unique, wood-rich appointment package that sets the 514e-FLTD 2013 Fall Limited guitar apart. Figured mahogany top edge trim, a rosette of figured mahogany and boxwood, boxwood ‘Avian’ fingerboard inlay, rosewood binding (body, soundhole, fingerboard and peghead), and a boxwood peghead logo yield remarkable visuals. Gotoh gold tuners and new Taylor Expression System electronics complete the equation.

Overall Rating
Playability and Feel
A Beautiful Instrument!
Your general opinion of this product.
I rated this guitar 5 stars in every category except Playability and Action. The only reason I nicked one star off each is that the guitar arrived in need of a set up. I think it's because it shipped during extremely cold weather. After I had it set up it plays like butter! Perfect!
Would you consider this product to be made well? How dependable?
The quality is Taylor all the way. The finish is breathtaking and the wood is spectacular. This is a really great example of what a guitar at this price point should be. It wowed me!
Playability and Feel
How does it feel, Heavy, Fast, Chunky? How was the neck? Are the controls easy to get to while playing?
After the set up I had done locally, this guitar plays like an electric. I play 3 one hour sets and it doesn't even phase me. Not bad for an old guy!
Bright and snappy? Dark and smooth? Were the pickups hot, mellow, thick, thin?
I found out that I love the sound of mahogany! This thing has a sound that I can't put my finger on, but it just does it for me. I think it is in the low end, it's not as clear as rosewood but it is much deeper. The way the back vibrates is very cool. The pickups are the new ES2. I think this may be one of, if not the first model, to have it. I played a gig with it so far. The signal is much hotter than my 814ce with the previous version of the ES. It sounded just like the guitar, except plugged in. Very transparent. All I had to do was dial out the mid-range a tad and it was awesome.
How was the action out of the box?
Action out of the box was a bit stiff. The nut slots were somewhat high. I had a pro do a set up and it is awesome now! I would recommend a set up on most new guitars unless they happen to be perfect out of the box. This one got shipped in the cold weather so I expected it to be a bit out....and it was.
How did the stain or paint job look?
The finish is stunning! Beautiful wood...better looking than the pictures! This one also had a really cool birth mark on the headstock. I could not be happier with this guitar!
How has it stood up over time?
So far so good. I do store it in the case with a planet waves humidipak as I do with all my acoustics. Where I live it is super dry.
