The TC Electronic Vortex ranges from a brain twisting through-zero-flange tape echo over more contemporary sounds to an all-out flange-war, which ensures you will always be able to find the appropriate flange for the job at hand. Vortex Flanger’s through-zero option also gives you the ability to get both a negative and a positive effect to your flange sounds, while the other options allow you to go from a classic tube-type flanger to a more soft sounding tape flanger. The knobs allow you to set the speed of the modulation, but also the depth and the intensity, giving you a set of well-rounded controls. You are also able to set the delay time, which is the key to finetuning the effect, no matter if you’re going for subtle flanging or more extreme jet flanging sounds. Finally, the Feedback knob allows you to feed the modulated signal back into the pedal, which basically gives you more of everything that’s so cool about flanging. TonePrint But there is more to Vortex Flanger than meets the eye. TC Electronic calls it TonePrint, and it will rock your world. Via a simple USB-connection, TonePrint allows you to download custom tunings made by your favorite guitarists straight into your pedal, easy, free and fast. | Better than the classic ADA or MXR flangers! |
Quality
Would you consider this product to be made well? How dependable?
It appears very well made and should last a lifetime.
Reliability
How has it stood up over time?
I've only had it for about a month have had no problems.
Overall
Your general opinion of this product.
This is a very versatile and quiet flanger. It sounds better than the classic ADA or MXR flangers and is much more quiet. Unlike most other flangers, there is no perceived volume drop or boost when switching it on in most settings.
Playability and Feel
How does it feel, Heavy, Fast, Chunky? How was the neck? Are the controls easy to get to while playing?
It feel solid (not too light or heavyand doesn't take up as much space on your pedalboard as some of the other pedals available.
Tone
Bright and snappy? Dark and smooth? Were the pickups hot, mellow, thick, thin?
N/A
Finish
How did the stain or paint job look?
The finsh looks good and the graphics are not too over the top. I looks like it was made to take care of business - which it flawlessly does.
Action
How was the action out of the box?
The pedal was easy to use right out of the box. I could dial in great sounds immediately. I did, however, have to download the software upgrade to use the Toneprint feature. This was not difficult, though, and after doing so I was able to easily download the John Pettruci Tonprint which is great. What a cool feature!
