T-Rex Gull Wah Guitar Effects Pedal
T-Rex is proud to introduce the Gull Wah Guitar Effects Pedal, their own interpretation of the wah-wah legend. With no potentiometer, the Gull wah pedal gives a very smooth sound and will virtually last forever! The Gull wah from T-Rex is like no other wah ever made, offering versatility, durability, and professional performance all in a great looking package.
Two wahs and the long-forgotten yoy
Many of the wah-wah pedals produced over the decades are very different from each other. And then there are related effects like the underrated yoy-yoy pedal. When T-Rex designed Gull, they wanted to bring you the very best that history has to offer, and then some.
Gull gives you two distinct wah-wah sounds; a light wah that's great for clean guitars and rhythm parts and a heavy, smoking wah for distorted leads, plus the unique dual-filter yoy-yoy effect. Yoy-yoy is a basically a wah effect with an ultra-high-frequency sweep soaring overhead. It's an incredibly rich sound.
A classic SLOPE knob lets you shape the character of your way/yoy sweep, and a BOOST function lets you set a higher volume for your output signal when you kick your Gull into action.
A more musical wah
With Gull, T-Rex also wanted to address a complaint many guitarists have with traditional wah-wah pedals: their response. Wah-wahs often jump into action at the slightest touch, leaving little room to work the pedal and build up slowly.
Gull addresses this with a special HOTSPOT button that gives you the option of slowing the onset of the effect and using the whole pedal to 'wah' with. It makes Gull respond more like a musical instrument than many legacy pedals do.
Like most wah-wah pedals, the Gull is switched on and operated using the pedal controller. To turn the unit on or off, press the pedal toe all the way down to activate the ON/OFF button hidden beneath it. Once you've switched the Gull, you'll want to select a mode via the MODE switch.
The 3 modes are:
- WAH 1: A light wah effect that’s perfect for clean guitar sounds and rhythm parts
- WAH 2: A class full-out wah you’ll recognize from history’s great wah-wah solos.
- YOY: An unusual effect that uses dual-filter technology to add a subtle, breathy high-frequency modulation to the classic wah.
Now use the SLOPE knob to adjust the character of the frequency band you sweep as you operate the pedal. The higher you set the SLOPE knob, the more dramatic the wah.
The BOOST knob is useful tool for making sure you’re wah-wah sound is loud enough in the mix. The higher you set it, the louder you’ll be when you kick your Gull into action.
The last control you'll want to understand before using your Gull is the HOTSPOT button on the front of the unit. Many guitarists complain that wah-wah pedals are too touchy, and don’t allow enough pedal play before the effect kicks in. They’re sort of like a guitar whose action is so low, you hardly have to press down on the fretboard to play a note.
Gull operates like a traditional wah-wah when the HOTSPOT button is in. When the button is out, you get more pedal to work with before the effect reaches its highpoint. Many players find that this altered response makes Gull a more musical pedal than other options.
