The two I bought three years ago came in pristine condition. I make it a point to take very good care of my equipment. Even after three years, you'd be hard pressed to find a scratch on them. I converted one of my previous stands to a LCD monitor stand. It worked out great. I ordered this one so I could continue to have to available speaker stands. AMS speed of delivery is incredible. Ordered one day; got it the next. I'm just a bit disappointed the stand had some serious scratches on it. I suppose it really shouldn't matter. But when I buy something new, I expect it to look new. And I keep all of my equipment looking new. That's just me.
