Vox NT15H Night Train Guitar Amplifier Head

The Vox Night Train guitar amplifier head is for the musician on the go. Whether you are doing a late night demo, jamming with friends or laying down tracks, the Night Train is ready to deliver that smooth and satisfying all tube sound. The rock solid, no compromise all tube Vox Night Train head delivers that killer sound and total convenience.

Vox Night Train Guitar Head Features
  • Rock-solid, all-tube head that is made to travel.
  • Uncompromising sound with two 12AX7 preamp tubes and two EL84 power tubes.
  • Selectable Bright or Thick mode switch provides EQ and Gain variations for just the right tone.
  • Dual-power tube mode offers 15 watt (Pentode Power) or 7.5 Watt (Triode Tone) operation.
  • Master Volume control preserves your gain settings at any playing level.
  • Solid, industrial-chic mirror finish exudes tube coolness.
  • Custom padded carry case is included.

If Looks Could Kill
Night Train is one sexy beast. Solid enough to inspire confidence, Night Train weighs less than seventeen pounds and the armored lunchbox dimensions provide extreme portability. Finished with a cool chrome mirror-finish, the signature VOX diamond design reveals that inspiring vacuum tube glow. And of course, the Night Train NT15H includes its own padded carry case to protect your investment.

True Tube Power
The sound is pure VOX. Inside, a pair of EL84 tubes deliver on the tube power promise. Two 12AX7 tubes drive the preamp stage with both power and clarity. This is the same winning tube complement as the classic VOX AC15. From chime-like clean tones to the warmest overdrive, there is no mistaking that harmonic richness of pure tube performance.

Dual Nature
A single switch lets you select between Pentode or Triode tube operation. In the Pentode mode, Night Train delivers a full 15 watts of power. In the Triode mode, the power is cut to 7.5 watts. The Triode mode also relaxes the tube power stage, letting that silky-smooth, mellow tube character shine through.

Preamp Pizzazz
Night Train greets you with a clear, simple panel design; offering the familiar Gain and Volume controls. The Tone controls include Treble, Middle and Bass, allowing you to dial up just the right character for your individual, signature tone. In addition, the preamp section features a mode switch, offering both BRIGHT and THICK options. The BRIGHT mode accentuates the high-frequency components for a clear, ringing tone; the THICK setting bypasses the tone circuit to boost the gain and create a chunkier, heavier sound.

Vox Night Train Includes
Power cable, Speaker cable and Carrying bag.

Subject:So Sweet: This Thing Rocks!
Quality: You pull this amp out of the box and the carry case and you just feel it. This amp is solid, built like a tank. Fired it up, nice tube glow. Plugged in with my new FREE snap jack cable (Thanks American Musical!) and the tone was awesome. I really wish the cab was available now cuz I wanna get together with my buds and jam, but I primarily bought it for recording in a home studio so I can wait, and the tone coming out of my monitors is suh-weet. This thing screams quality and the price is probably lower than it could be!
Reliability: Just got it, time will tell, but it's built like a freakin' tank!
Overall: I couldn't be happier with this purchase. I've been looking and looking, but I wanted something ideal for a home studio as well as small gigs, and I wanted a quality tube amp and tube tone, but I can't afford to drop a grand for an amp without winding up in divorce court. I'm glad I waited, and I'm glad I bought this amp. I will definitely buy the matched cab when it comes out this summer.
Playability and Feel:
Tone: Classic Vox tone and chime. I'm still dialing in and tweaking, but the tone is incredible for this price point. Built in reverb would have been nice, but I can work around that with my rig. Multiple settings for 15w vs 7.5w are very convenient for me, given my intended uses. But the real reason you will want this amp is the tone. It's there in a big way.
Finish: The look of this amp is definitely a class act. I was first intrigued by the name: "Night Train." The compact design and mirror finish scream class act. What I don't understand is the design for the matching cab (yet to be released but can be seen on the VOX web site). It doesn't even look like it belongs with this head from the photos posted, but I'll overlook that if it matches the head for tone and volume. It just would've been nice to have a better cab design with the same kind of sleek presentation.
Action: Knobs are smooth and fluid. That's about as close to action as I can get.

Subject:This Little Beastie is Amazing!!!
Quality: It seems very well made, but i didn't get my snap jack cable though... :(
Sound: Fantastic. Versatile. so many good tones with just my volume knob from ringing bell like clean to screaming marshall like crunch. Not good for mega metal heads unless you use a pedal in front of it.
Reliability: Don't know yet, just got it today, jammed with it tonight. But very well built
Overall: What a great litle amplifier!! Vox got it right! It takes some dialing in, oh about 5 minutes worth to get a great sound out of this amp.
Playability and Feel: It has a good feel for an amp if you get what I mean, could use a tube rectofier though, so it would breathe a little more...
Tone: Great tones and a lot of them!! I gave it a 4 because I have one wish for this amp and that would be a tube rectofier for a little sag and pump...
Finish: Good looking piece of gear. Classy with out being over the top, but close.. a Lot of chrome...

Subject:Fantastic Amp....Amazing deal...and killer tone
Quality:
Sound: Just put everything 12 o'clock.. its great!...However the "THICK" side of the amp is where it's at for me...it's a tone monster. For those who prefer a british style sound...U2...Coldplay or turn around and go for Lincoln Brewster or ACDC type tones in a second..it's really good....It's better than the Egnater Rebel 20..which I own and do use often...
Reliability: Seems very well built...I have used for it for a month in the studio and it is great.
Overall: I bought this amp to use in the studio and may be a little bit live. Overall this amp DOES NOT HAVE A BAD TONE IN IT. It is simple to use and great.

Subject:First Impressions are a FIVE across the board!!!!
Quality: I only gave it a 3 because I just received it and have played only one gig with it, so no track record. But it looks and feels like HUGE quality. I tried a number of the other so-called small heads and this baby won out. You can get some great tones out of this thing. My favorite --- thick blues slide w/ a humbucker quipped tele.
Reliability: Again, with no real time into it... I don't know the answer to this. But I have to think based on the "feel" of it and the way the knobs move and the quality of the switches that it's a product that will last.
Overall: I bought this product as a "plan b" for gigs in case my main amp had any issues. Since it was raining on Saturday night and I didn't want to chance my boutique "A" amp getting wet, I pulled this baby out for the night. It was great. Chimed and simmered all night long. I'm very happy with it. The carrying case is a huge bonus. I also love the chrome grill look it has. Would I like to add things to it -- like a foot pedal where you could change the two modes? Or a brighter, wider power on light? Sure!!!! But considering the cost of this baby and what you get -- classic tube tone saturation AND portability, I couldn't be happier.
Playability and Feel: Nice weight to it. Very simple to use and yet I'm able to dial in a number of tones with it. All the knobs and switches feel high quality. Actually, I just got this last week and played out with it on Saturday night (as I said earlier). During the great gear schlepp somewhere, I had this baby in her carrying case and I set it down on what I thought was a flat surface. It tumbled over and landed on the ground totally protected by the case.
Tone: You get the chimey or "bright/snappy" VOX sound, but with a flick of the switch you can dial in a Black Snake Moan tone that is pure Delta slide blues. Have Mercy!!! I play it through an Alnico Blue in a closed back 12" cabinet.
Finish: Chrome grill. Nice chicken head knobs. VOX logo. Leagues better than any of the other "small" heads out there. I know. I tested them all.
Action: Fired her up and away we went.
