Wharfedale Diamond Pro 8.2 Active Studio Monitor

The Wharfedale Diamond 8 family has spent over twenty years receiving 5 star reviews & accolades while standing as Britain’s best-selling loudspeaker. The Diamond 8 series represents a de facto standard for sound quality and balance for everything from Jazz to Rock, Classical, to Movie Sound Track and effects. Carefully designed drivers and 100 Watts of biamplified power deliver the highest levels of accuracy. The tweeter features an ultra-strong neodymium magnet for the fastest, most accurate response Wharfedale has ever achieved. The KEVLAR woofer cone has a bi-directional weave and is self-damping, nearly eliminating all resonant frequencies. A profiled phase plug improves the off-axis performance to project an excellent stereo image across a wide listening area. The 8.1A provides a 1/4" unbalanced input, and the 8.2A provides a balanced XLR-1/4" combo input. Rear panel controls include Volume level and a carefully-tailored bass filter switch. For professional recording and post production, Diamond 8 speakers are a superb reference for the creation and mixing of program material.

Details
The Diamond 8 series is the result of over three years intensive research and development into virtually every aspect of acoustic design.

Firstly, the tweeter in all models is a 25mm textile dome, ferrofluid cooled unit powered with an ultra-strong neodymium magnet for the fastest, most accurate response we have ever achieved.

Next, the woofer cone is made from a bi-directional KEVLAR weave – self-damping in nature, reducing resonant frequencies to virtually negligible levels. The impetus for rapid movement here, is a dual layer, vented voice coil which transmits the signal information with the highest levels of accuracy. The cone is mounted on a nitrile rubber ‘Flexaural surround rim’. A profiled phase plug improves the off-axis performance to project an excellent stereo image across a wide listening area.

Subject:I love 'em
Quality: Had mine since '05 and have never had a problem
Features: Not alot of features here just great sounding monitors. No eq, but none has been needed. Sound great and not like a pair good house speakers. A lot of monitors hype the low end and the high end like house speakers, but these are really flat and let me know whats really going on. Just plug 'em up, check a reference song and go
Ease of Use: Just plug them up and get to listening and mixing. I love the fact that they don't have an eq switch to get to fooling with. I had mine for several years and they sound great in any room. worst case scenario is we had to use the bass cut switch in a room where the bass was a little boomy, but mixes in any room have translated well outside of those rooms, in other enviroments.
Sound: Sound way better than most other speakers in the under $1000 price range. Can hear details in the mix that i missed using more expensive monitors in treated rooms! I carry mine to other studio's when I'm called to do a mix.
Reliability: I've had mine since '05 and plan on keeping for many more years.
Overall: I've used Mackies, KRK's, M-Audio's, and several other more expensive very popular monitors and I would take these in a heartbeat over any of the others. I can use for hours and not get fatigued from tweeters that screech Unless you have about $1400 a monitor to spend, the Wharfedale's are going to be a great investment for you.

Subject:HF distortion, poor service
Quality: Obviously they are poorly made.
Features: Nothing special.
Ease of Use: Easy to use. Just plug em in.
Sound: Good for the money if the HF driver didn't fall apart.
Reliability: The tweeter on one of the monitors started to distort certain frequencies. Problem got worse with time. Took it in to dealer to have it fixed. It took four months to get the part in. Meanwhile I noticed the same problem happening with the other monitor. After the first monitor was fixed I took it home...problem is still there. Who knows what's going on. One thing's for sure...I'm returning these monitors.
Overall: Good for the money if they hold up.
