Yamaha DTXPRESS IV Standard Electronic Drum Set

The Yamaha DTXPRESS IV Standard Electronic Drum Kit features an all-new set of voices that make this the best sounding DTXPRESS kit yet. Add upgraded cymbals and new learning tools and you have the ideal electronic drum kit for practice, teaching, or gigging around town. The DTXPRESS Standard kit is comprised of a 3-zone snare pad, 3 tom pads, two 3-zone round cymbal pads, a hi hat pad, kick tower and a hi hat controller.

50 Preset drum kits An all-new set of voices, using larger files make the DXPIVSP the best sounding DTXPRESS kit yet. With input from our artists, we have programmed 50 great sounding preset kits built using samples our most popular acoustic kits. Oak Custom, Maple Custom, Beech Custom, Recording Custom, as well as a wide selection of ready-to-play kits ideal for any musical situation.

427 Drum and Percussion voices Inside the box, there is a great selection of high-quality voices that you can use to build 20 custom kits for when you want to think "outside the box". There are lots of acoustic drums to choose from, as well as percussion instruments from around the world. You will also find some killer special effects voices that take away any limits on your creativity.

22 keyboard voices The DXPIV module has 22 keyboard voices that you can trigger from the pads. This allows you to trigger melodic patterns or program melodic loops into the on-board sequencer that you can use as part of your live performance. Great feeling pads

The pads on the DXPIVSP have natural rebound and great dynamic response so you will be able to get express all of your musical ideas. The special kit has a three-zone snare with pad controller that lets you make snare tension adjustments, change the pitch, or alter the tempo of a sequence that you are playing to. There are three toms, one three-zone crash, one mono crash, and one three zone ride. The cymbal pads are round, and have a natural swing and rebound for realistic feel. The hi hat pad mounts to a real hihat stand (that's included with the kit), and responds much like an acoustic hi hat. The kick tower feels very much like an acoustic kick, andwill accept a double pedal. When you want to expand, you can split the tom and kick inputs to add more pads. On-board sequencer

The DXPIV has a built in sequencer that allows you to record your performance in real time. There are 44 prerecorded full-length songs and 19 pad songs to play along with, and 20 user songs that you can use to record your own loops, songs or patterns. You can mute the drum part so that you can play without a drum track, or you can also mute the rhythm track to play along with only a bass line. You can assign any of these songs to any pad in the kit, and then start or stop the song by hitting the pad. To give you even more musical choices, you can plug your CD or MP3 player into the AUX IN of the module and play along with your favorite music. Programmable click

The module has a programmable metronome that can play subdivisions of quarter, eighth, sixteenth, or triplets. You can control the volume of each subdivision to give the patterns a different feel. The metronome has 30 user patterns that you can save so you can recall patterns that you use frequently for teaching or practice. The click also has a feature we call Rhythm Gate that will mute the drum voices if you are out of time with the click.

    Overall Ranking:
    Sound:
    Value:
    Quality:
Subject:Best Bang-for-the-buck Digital Kit On The Market
Quality: This is my second DTXpress kit and I love it! The sounds are sweet, especially the cymbal sounds, which are usually the weak point of a digital kit. The triggering is spot-on and the new interface is easy to use.
Features: Lots of very usable sounds from sampled acoustic drums and cymbals to special effects and electro voices. Nice pads that track perfectly and have a natural rebound. Pre-programmed songs in all styles so you can jam and keep your chops up when you cant find people to jam with. The metronome is KILLER with programable subdivisions and the rythm gate is a nice tool for newbies trying to get tighter.
Sound: The sounds are 16 bit (cd redbook format)and are very good. I like the cymbals and percussion voices. I think in this day and age it would be nice to get all 24 bit samples, but for a kit under a grand you wont find a better deal. I record demos with it and most people can't even tell it's a digital kit.
Overall: Compared to the Roland td6, the DTX IV module rocks. The cymbal sounds are sweet and natural and Yamaha makes some of the finest sounding accoustic drums out there and guess what... they sampled several of them for this module.... The Oak and birch drums sound fantastic.
Value: I bought this kit with a $120 instant rebate although I would have paid full price and been satisfied that I made the only reasonable purchase in the under $1500 price range. I added an extra cymbal trigger and new kick pedal and stayed under the $1k limit my wife set.
Appearance: looks like digital drums to me!! Nothing fancy, but the rack is nice and sturdy and it isn't ugly. (not to me anyway)
