Yamaha FG730S Solid Top Acoustic Guitar

The Yamaha FG730S Solid Top Acoustic Guitar has the ultimate combo for projection and pure tone. The expertly braced spruce top speaks clearly atop the rosewood body. It has a Rosewood fingerboard, Rosewood Bridge, die-cast tuners, body and neck binding, and a tortoise pickguard.

Yamaha guitars are known for their quality and sound, and the new FG730S is no exception. The level of detail and craftsmanship found in the FG730S places this guitar in a class above the rest. This guitar features the Natural finish.

The FG series of Yamaha guitars were introduced in 1969. They were affordable, well made and put a quality guitar within the reach of an entire generation of musicians and music lovers. A lot has change in the last 35 years, but not the quality and affordability of a Yamaha guitar. Yamaha's combination of quality components and craftsmanship make the FG730S an instrument that produces great tone and playability.

Subject:Excellent buy for the beginner or the accomplished
Quality: I'm no expert, just a beginner actually. But I've done my research for quite a while looking for the perfect guitar to start out on. The craftsmanship of this guitar is definitely exceptional for its price range. Flawless.
Reliability: Just got it, so I can't answer that question just yet.
Overall: I'm just starting out, but I wanted a guitar that would keep me motivated. I wanted a decent sounding guitar I could grow old with. I came across this little gem. After reading the reviews and listening to it myself in a local guitar shop I was sold. It really is a beautiful guitar. I went with the natural and it has kind of a classy look to it. The scale is perfectly balanced. Not too mellow and not too bright. Just right. I thought it would be the perfect one to learn on.
Playability and Feel: I like the size of the neck. Very playable.
Tone: Just right smack in the middle.
Finish: Flawless finish.
Action: Kind of low. Good position.
Skill Level: Beginner

Subject:Amazing guitar. Plays like it cost 3x more.
Quality: This seriously looks, feels, plays like a guitar that should cost at the very least twice as much. Probably more like 3 times more though. Very nice guitar.
Reliability: When talking about acoustic guitars, the one most important attribute in the Reliability category that you want to talk about is holding tune, especially with regard to lower priced guitars, which often have cheap tuners. This thing holds tune like a champ. Neither playing hard nor sitting unplayed in it's caes makes this thing go out of tune. Very good.
Overall: I was blow away by the guitar when I played it and instantly decided to take it home with me.
Playability and Feel: It's very Taylor - esque in feel and playability. I used to own a Taylor 810, and this reminded me of that very much. Yes, a $2000 Taylor basically got replaced by a $299 Yamaha. I'm very pleased with this guitar. The action could be a little lower, but honestly it's not that bad for buying it right out of the sealed box at the dealer.
Tone: The tone of this guitar is much more toward the Taylor end of the sonic spectrum than it is on the Martin side. Which is just fine and dandy if that's what you're going for. But I say even if you like Martin better, that's fine. Spend your big money on your Martins, but pick up the FG730S to fill that Taylor niche that like it or not has it's place in the acoustic guitar world.
Finish: the attention to detail on this guitar is amazing. This does NOT look like a $299 guitar. I keep bringing up my old Taylor 810, but it's for a reason. The binding, inlays and everything remind me a lot of that. Except I like the FG730S binding better because it's Ivory (vintage-y white) instead of stark white like the Taylor was. This instrument is gorgeous. Even the Yamaha logo on the headstock is abalone.
Action: A little on the high side, but then again normal for aggressive strumming, which a lot of people do on dreads. I'd like to take it down a little, but honestly, I've been playing it for a few weeks as is and I have no problems. I have other guitar for more intricate and mellow playing. When I'm on this dread I like to really dig into it, and this responds very well to that type of playing.
