Yamaha NP30 Portable Grand Piano Package

The Yamaha NP30 Portable Grand is an easy-to-carry piano that features Advanced Wave Memory stereo sampled piano sounds for incredible sound quality.
A entirely new take on the digital piano, offering quality, value and portability with a lighter touch. Featuring 76 Graded Touch keys and stereo-sampled pianos. Also, 10 voices like Organs and Strings plus 32 notes of polyphony. Another great feature for the home recording artist is that it performs as a MIDI controller too. The built in speakers allow you to play it anywhere since it operates on six AA batteries or the included power supply.

Ultra-Portable Digital Piano
The new NP-30 Portable Grand delivers Yamaha digital piano sound and simplicity in a new lightweight, compact design like nothing else you've seen... all at a price point you won't believe.

Its super slim design and minimal weight of 12 pounds makes it the most compact performer in the digital piano family of instruments. And 6 AA batteries are all you need to power up and start playing immediately.

Graded Soft Touch Action
Because of its similarity to acoustic pianos, a graded action is one of the primary features sought by pianists in their digital instruments. While technically a non-weighted action, the Graded Soft-Touch keyboard is the first of its kind bringing different levels of resistance without the extra weight of moving hammers the key contributor to the NP-30's fighting weight of only 12 pounds. The end result is a very playable action that will appeal to pianists who want to take their music anywhere.

AWM Stereo Piano Samples
Advanced Wave Memory is Yamaha's exclusive format for reproducing sounds digitally. And stereo means that Yamaha used two microphones to record the piano you hear on every key of the NP-30 adding even more realism to the sound you hear.

Built-in Metronome
Every pianist knows that practice makes perfect. And one tool they've all used to keep time when practicing is the metronome. The NP-30 has a built-in metronome and even has multiple time signatures (3/4, 4/4, 6/8) to choose from. Plus the numeric key function lets you set the tempo to the exact marking you need.

Dual Voice Mode
Choose any two Voices you'd like to combine and play them both at once. Dual Voice mode makes this easier than ever. Simply hold down the Voice Select button and select the two you'd like to hear for a variety of combinations.

Subject:Now WHY DIDNT YAMAHA THINK OF THIS 5 YEARS AGO?
Quality: This Keyboard is absolutely Awesome. Simple, light, and it sounds incredible. How did they do that? I have been comparing it's grand piano and EP sounds to professional recordings in my collection and it just about matches.
Features: Siple features...just what I wanted. a Grand Piano that actually sounds like a GRAND PIANO. The other features are pretty cool...like i said...simple. Dual voice, midi, transpose. Pretty easy to learn how to get these things activated or modified.
Ease of Use: The manual is pretty clear. there nothing to it really.
Sound: ABSOLUTELY UNBELIEVABLE. How is it possible to get a $300 piano that sounds like a $3000 kurzweil? I don't get it. But i am thankful.
Action: The action (touch) is pretty ok...graded touch isnt exactly hammer action but i can get used to it. It's alot better than other keyboards and workstations that have no action at all.
Value: You can never beat this at this price. This is excellent stuff. Keep it up yamaha.

Subject:Great Keyboard For The Price
Quality: This is a great quality keyboard for the price.
Features: My favorite features of this keyboard are its portability and its great authentic piano sound. However, it would be nice to have a separate button for key transpose instead of going through the menu.
Ease of Use: The keyboard is fairly easy to use, but for a beginner, it may help to read the manuals first.
Sound: The greatest feature of this keyboard - the authentic piano sound. I have a Yamaha P80, and the voices on the NP30 seem to be very similar if not the same.
Action: In reading some of the reviews, I was concerned about the action. It certainly would weigh alot more than 12 lbs if it had the weighted hammer action. Upon playing it, I was pleasantly surprised with the action...pretty decent for a lightweiht keyboard.
Value: This is a great quality keyboard for the price. Based on its portability and great authentic piano sound, it's worth the price.

Subject:Finally!
Quality: I haven't gigged with it yet, but it seems well made.
Features: It's light weight! I might have the speakers in a different location. I'm not sure. It has what I need to be able to play anywhere and not hurt myself lugging a keyboard around.
Ease of Use: I got it out, plugged it in and was playing the different voices. Cool. Carried it around -- by myself --- FREEDOM!!!!!
Sound: Tone is good for a keyboard in this price range. The lower register sounds a little tinny from the built in speakers but sound fine through an amp. But overall, the tone is great, especially the piano sounds which is what I really want it for.
Action: Good. It was what I expected. It wasn't as good as an acoustic piano but not as bad as some synths I've played on. I'm usually a keyboard snob and refuse to buy a keyboard that doesn't have 88 full sized, fully weighted keys and graded hammer action -- comes from my classical training, but this suits my needs. Now I can hang with the guitar players and play anywhere, anytime.
Value: Yes, buy it now. Don't wait if you want to play. I put this thing under my arm and carried up upstairs in my house. It doesn't get any better than that. Now I can go to open mics like the singer songwriter guitar players! I still have my other Yamaha and my Triton. This is an additional keyboard for portability. And, because it doesn't break the bank it is worth adding to the gear collection. I would not recommend it for beginners, though. Beginners need a more piano-like feel and should start with an acoustic piano or the fully weighted digital 88 key model. This is not an instrument for a beginner to practice or learn technique on.
