Step Up to Premium Yamaha Touch and Tone
Whether you're practicing at home or away, performing solo or in a band, the Yamaha P155 digital piano offers professional quality sound with our legendary piano touch. Thanks to the top-shelf Yamaha digital piano technologies like advanced sampling methods and the ultra-expressive GH (Graded Hammer) keyboard, musicians don't have to choose between portability and piano quality, the quality you expect from a company that's been building world-class acoustic pianos for over a century. In the P155, Yamaha crafts that heritage into a slim cabinet available in three contemporary finishes.

Dynamic Expression, Realistic Sound
Hand-Crafted Pianos, High-Quality Voices
To ensure the finest grand piano sound for the P155, we went straight to the source: Yamaha's finest 9-foot concert grand, a hand-picked CFIIIS. Next, a master piano technician painstakingly tuned and regulated the CFIIIS to sonic perfection. Then we applied our Pure CF Sampling technology to accurately capture every aspect of the CFIIIS sound, keeping post-processing to an absolute minimum to maintain sonic integrity throughout. The result is a truly authentic grand piano sound with powerful, dynamic bass, warm mid-range and crystal-clear highs.

Layer upon Layer
Using Yamaha's Dynamic Stereo Sampling (DSS) technology, the incredibly natural 4-level piano sample is a breakthrough achievement for digital pianos. It means that, depending on how hard you strike a note, you will hear one of four piano recordings on each and every key for an unprecedented level of dynamic range and tonal expression. Playing softly doesn't simply lower the volume; it produces the quiet recordings of piano notes. And likewise, playing more forcefully triggers separate samples at different levels. A Damper Resonance effect emulates the real harmonic overtones of each individual note, taking acoustic realism to the next level.

Ascension to Detail
If you close your eyes while playing a grand piano, you'll find its sound is a bit more complicated than note-on-noteoff. Yamaha has gone to great lengths to capture these sonic artifacts in the P155. These meticulous efforts include recording a felt damper coming to rest on a vibrating string when a note is released (Key Off Samples), or reproducing the sound of the open strings that wash over your performance when using the damper pedal (Stereo Sustain Samples and Damper Resonance).

A Touch Above
Look inside the lid of a grand piano. Different sized strings require different sized hammers. Different sized hammers have different weights. The keyboard of the P155 utilizes Yamaha's GH (Graded Hammer) technology to reproduce the true feel of a grand piano keyboard action, with heavier touch in the lower keys, lighter touch in the higher keys, and subtle gradations of weight and response throughout. Thanks to the input of concert-level, professional pianists during its development, the GH keyboard features superb balance and remarkable consistency. Performing or practicing on a GH keyboard properly develops and maintains an artist's technique for making the transition between P155 and an acoustic grand.

Perfection Made Practical
As a full-featured digital piano, the P155 gives you all you need for practice, playing and performance. It features easy-to-set split and layer modes, 128 note polyphony, along with 50 built-in songs of standard piano repertoire, recorded with the right and left hands on separate tracks.

An internal high-power, two-channel (12W + 12W) amplifier with high-performance speakers built-in-let you and your audience hear the authentic sounds in their full glory, but it can also be connected to an external amplifier through 1/4 inch line-level outputs with variable volume control. Because it takes up so little space, the P155 is ideal for customers who live in apartments. If volume is an issue, just plug in headphones.

Computer-compatible features include a songwriting tool for jotting down quick piano recordings and quickly importing them into a computer via USB input. You can also record your performance using the two-track song recorder to any attached USB storage device (not included). This makes it a snap to share your musical ideas and masterpieces easily with others. Songs are stored as Standard MIDI Files (SMF) and can be transferred and played back on any Mac or PC. It also works in the reverse: play any Standard MIDI file using the P155's incredible piano voices.

General
What is your overall opinion of this product?
This is the perfect piano for my teaching studio. I will also be gigging with it. It has a fantastic action and sound. I am going to be recommending it for all my students. It is a far better choice for most families than a "real" piano, for many reasons, including it has a better action than any spinet, console, or upright I've ever played, and it won't ever go out of tune.
Quality
What is your opinion of the quality of this product? How does it work for different genres of music?
This is the first electronic piano I've ever played that I consider to be a musical instrument, rather than a toy. It is truly expressive. It will work well for any genre of music that uses a grand piano sound. Classical, rock, pop, whatever. The build quality seems excellent. Rugged, solid, typical Yamaha quality.
Ease of Use
How user friendly is it? Would it work well for a beginner, intermediate or experienced player?
Perfect for any level of player. If you can play a piano, you can play this. The advanced features are not easy to access, nor are they user friendly, but who cares? Just leave it on the piano setting and play it. Unlike the P-95, it has a line out (YEAH!!!) with a mono output so it can be gigged. It's a bit on the heavy side for my aging back, but there's no way to build that quality weighted action into a 25 lb keyboard. Besides, why am I complaining? 41 lbs beats the heck out of my old Yamaha CP-70b that I used to gig with back in the day that weighed 300 lbs.
Features
Are the features on the product what you were expecting? What are your favorite features?
My favorite features are the only ones I really care about for my students: 1. a quality grand piano action, 2. a quality grand piano sound, 3. 88 keys. I also like the adjustable touch response, adjustable reverb, and effects.
Sound
How is the sound quality? How does the sound compare to other products you've use?
I had this thing sitting in my living room last weekend right next to my Knabe grand, and I found myself preferring to play the P-155 over the grand. It is so realistic! The sound from those tiny built in speakers is really surprising. I love the 4 level samples, the sound of other strings resonating when the pedal is pressed, and the sound of the felt hitting the string when a key is released. Both piano samples are awesome. Piano 1 is a full rich 9' concert grand. Piano 2 is perfect for rock, with a Billy Joel/Elton John type sound. I'm not bowled over by the Rhodes sound; it's OK but I wish it had four level sampling like the grand, instead of 2 levels. The DX7 electric piano sound is also OK. The organ, vibes, harpsichord, clavichord, and guitar are a waste. The strings are OK but I wish it were easier to adjust the balance between the strings and the piano when playing both at the same time. But these are minor complaints. The piano sounds are lovely.
Feel
How is the feel of the keys? Are the controls laid out well?
The action on this piano is the best of any electronic instrument I have ever laid hands on.
Value
Did you get what you were expecting for the price? How does it compare to similar products in the same price range?
This piano is a bargain. It sounds and feels as good as a top of the line $6,000 Clavinova. OK, so it's not a beautiful piece of living room furniture (although it does look quite nice), and it doesn't have all the bells and whistles and gimmicks and fancy displays and 1000 useless sounds. But if you are after a quality piano sound and feel, the P-155 is as good as it gets, for a surprisingly low price. I would have expected to pay twice the price I paid for an instrument this good.
