The Yamaha PSR E423 61 Key Portable Keyboard offers several innovative features. The basic features for learning to play -- like the Yamaha Portable Grand and Yamaha Education Suite -- and features for when it's time to perform, like synthesizer Control Knobs for real-time control of filter, effects, sound envelope and Style tempo. The Arpeggiator provides an expanded 150 different patterns and 40 arpeggio Voices. These easy-to-use professional features, along with its new black body, set this keyboard apart from others in its class.

Control Knobs, Arpeggiator and Pitch Bend
Most of the features of the PSR-E423 have been enhanced over its predecessor. Two control knobs provide real-time control for filtering the main melody tone, and changing the tempo of the arpeggio just like an analog synthesizer. The Pitch Bend wheel brings Voices like the Sax and Trumpet to life.

Improved Arpeggio Function
Tap into instant inspiration with the Arpeggio function which has been improved for smoother playability. New hold mode and allocated key-range will free your hands for playing with both hands. It provides an expanded150 patterns that automatically generate even more useful phrases that change depending on the notes and chords you play.

A Variety of New Dynamic Voices
Dynamic Voices usually found on high-end workstations, are now on the new PSR-E423. There are two different waveforms that change depending on how hard you play the keyboard, this allows more expression on Voices such as overdriven or nylon guitar. High quality Voices, from acoustic instruments to electric sounds, have been expanded to 700 varieties. All of these high-quality Voices sound even better through the bass-enhanced 2-way speakers.

Wider World Content and 174 Varieties of Styles with Auto-backing Mode
Arabic, Indian and Chinese content has been added to Styles, Rhythm and Voices. With our high-quality Styles and Voices, you'll sound like you have a professional backing band behind you.

Extended Flash Memory, Connectivity to PC via USB
4 times more flash memory has been added to the PSR-E423 so you can play along with your favorites transferred from a PC.

Be prepared for ground loop's.
Quality
Would you consider this product to be made well? How dependable?
The quality is exceptional except for one thing. When use connect this thing to a Computer via the USB2.0 cable be prepared to deal with the Ground Loop tou'll get with this unit.To keep cost down or an oversight in building this thing there is no ground loop filter built into this little bad boy.You can use an EBBTECH Ground Loop Eliminator, retail about$71.99 or do what I did buy from AMS their Behringer HD400 Hum eliminator for $33.97,it's a stereo/2mono unit that disables all grould loops by genertating a balanced out to be fed to your Pre-Amp's/Mixer board.Works just fine and does not color the sound,as a matter of fact it improves it by allowing for longer cables runs using an unbalanced line.I dont know why Yamaha failed to take this into account, but there Tech. Support people(hard to reach thr right person, youll have to wait for a callback from the person handling your email tech. issue) all told me the same thing and all but 1 personcalled 4 times, reached the same conclusion.
Features
What do you consider to be the best features of this product? What features would you add to this product if you could?
With over 600 tones and effects you can get from this thing,be prepared to write down the voices you like ahead of time,so as not to scrollthru over 600 to find the ones you'll find most usefull..Plus you can add Reverb & Chorus to your liking, chane the dynamics of the envelope (a very usefull and great funcyion to have, change the lopass cuttoff frequency and filter resonance and more.It has more features and options than a keyboard costing 3 times as much doe's not offer and some of the voices, espessilly the Brass section will have you adding a brass ensemble to your songs, very cool indeed.I would say that 98% of the voices are gonna be good enough for even the most demanding recoring/musician people everywhere.
Ease of Use
How easy is this product to use? How easy is the product to use with other products? Did it take long for you to learn to use this product? Was the manual helpful? How playable do you consider this product to be?
Plan to refer to the owners manuel quite a bit and cross referanceing page #'s to one another. This keyboard doe's so much, there is alot of information to know, but you pick it up as you go along. It's the kind of onfo. you pick up the first time you read it.The manuel for the most part,is clear and concise.
Sound
How is the tone?
As I said you'll find a reason to use 98% of the voices and sound effects offered on this model. The primary Grand Piano Sample isn't the best I've heard and doe's not stand up alone played by itself, but the context of "being in the mix" I see no fault
Value
Was this item an overall good value?
For the price you wont find a better keyboard. The surviavl pack that comes optional, contain's 3 DVD's which tou'll find most usefull and they offer deals only to Survival Pack buyers plus it gives you anoyher year added to the warrenty. The sustain pedal is a cheap sqaure box type who's action is quite questionable,so be prepared to buy a proper Sustain pedal(another $20.00,no big deal).Otherwise this PSR-E423 is a great value even with the addional headaches that come with it
