Zoom HD8CD Multitrack Digital RecorderDecisions decisions. Do you need a full-featured hard drive digital recorder or a computer loaded with DAW software and a pile of digital interfaces? ZOOM engineers have made this decision easy, just do both. With the new ZOOM HD Series recorders you get a fully loaded hard drive based digital workstation that allows you to record, in your studio or live on location, and then upload the tracks into your computer to the supplied Cubase LE DAW software. The ZOOM HD recorders also function as control surfaces so you can mix and edit your recordings on your computer.
Each ZOOM HD Series workstation is loaded with audio inputs (actually A/D interfaces) for connection to mics, instruments, and live consoles. Next, you can process everything with over 100 of ZOOM’s best on-board effects for guitar, bass, vocals, and mixdown. Also under your control is the full tilt studio drum/bass sequencer/sampler with velocity pads with 60 second sample time so song parts, sounds, or anything that you record can be loaded onto the velocity pads for easy access and playback.
Everything gets loaded onto a huge 80GB hard drive for up to 240 hours of recording time. At this point you can either mixdown your recording and burn a CD with the high-speed on-board CD burner (multi-track or stereo album modes) or move the audio WAV files to your computer through the USB-2 interface for further editing using the HD faders and knobs as your control surface.
Two units to choose from and a million songs to write, you better get busy!

QUALITY: To be honest, the first unit I received was defective and would not boot up. But American Musical Supply was great and sent me a replacement I received in two days. This second unit works perfectly well and has no issues whatsoever. The build is fairly rugged and should last many years with reasonable care. I am very happy with the quality.
FEATURES: This thing is packed with lots of great features. I would think the HD16 is better for recording bands or multiple instruments whereas the HD8 is probably better for a small home studio. I like the built in drum machine and bass simulation especially, I record everything using several guitars and a mic. You can build the drum and bass parts step-by-step or use an "easy song" function that allows you to write the drums and bass parts in minutes. You can take 10 "V-takes" on each channel, bounce, edit tracks, you name it, it's got it. It has many features I don't even use like MIDI and computer so

QUALITY: I've only had this unit two days but at least at first sight it sure looks to be well made. It is very solidly built and has a little "heft" to it to show you it is. This unit was in excellent shape, no blemishes loose parts here. As much as I love this unit I certainly hope it last a long time, and it's nice to know AMS gives you a one year warranty. I can find no complaints on the quality of this very attractive machine. 5
FEATURES: I really don't know where to start, it has all the effects that you could ever want but on top of that they are great sounding effects. I love the ease in which I could scroll through the effects list and hear them while seeing them. I really can find no bad features about this unit, I am not big on drum machines but this one I will use. I would add a clear plastic cover of some type to keep the dust away but that's really no problem. I thought the USB cable came with it, I didn't get one so maybe they don't, st

QUALITY: Good solid frame. No issues moving location to location. Should last & last.
FEATURES: The effects. Can insert them, add to dry tracks, and add to master track. If you can't find or create the effect in here, it doesn't exist! All popular guitar amp models, voice effects etc... The drum machine is GREAT too for us Guitar & Bass playing vocalists who write & record our own songs. No drummer to hire. Keeps rock solid time every time!
EASE OF USE: I'm not gonna lie too you, if you have NEVER used a digi recorder before, it may seem overwhelming at first. However, you will be able to record right out of the box, but you must READ the manual and EXPERIMENT a little to truly master all the great stuff this baby can do. Once you get it though, you GET IT! And off you go!
VALUE: The value is AMAZING. EVERYTHING you need is right here. You do NOT need to go out and buy effects units, Stand Alone CD Burners or Drum |
