Quality Would you consider this product to be made well? How dependable? Quality is questionable. It froze up a few times with first few productions. You have to manage your samples and uploading samples directly from folders that have been downloaded from sites, CD's or any other source is not recommended. Modify your sample and cut it to its smallest form for the best run quality. There is nothing worse than to be making a production and the thing freezes without you being able to go back and save it. Did a little research, the freezing was supposed to be fixed with the new OS 2.0, but IDK. Other than that the quality of the machine is great!!! Features What do you consider to be the best features of this product? What features would you add to this product if you could? Sample chopping is amazing. Have not yet tried the time stretching. The effects feature could be a little more in depth. The actual pads and controls are great. The sound quality is as good as you make it. As long as you have quality samples, you will have a quality sound! I'm just now breaking it in so I have only scratched the surface. Ease of Use How easy is this product to use? How easy is the product to use with other products? Did it take long for you to learn to use this product? Was the manual helpful? How playable do you consider this product to be? I was a software guy so the switch took a little time but once everything was recognized, a 10 year old could use. If you understand and recognize sound samples, then you can use this machine Sound How is its Tone? Sound is wonderful!! enough said Action How was the action out of the box? I was very excited to receive my first drum machine. Unfortunately this machine does not come with any unique sounds. I am still learning the synth side. Value Was this item an overall good value? Features What do you consider to be the best features of this product? What features would you add to this product if you could? Much larger screen, controls oon the side for bulit in snyth, and effects. Acolor screen Ease of Use How easy is this product to use? How easy is the product to use with other products? Did it take long for you to learn to use this product? Was the manual helpful? How playable do you consider this product to be? Pretty easy. I feel if you use one you have used them all. I own every mpc since the 2000 it's pretty much the same. I love the new chop shop for samples they added. It took me a few minutes and I really mean minutes to understand that you need a compact fash card installed to get the usb mode to work. but once you install a flash card and you mount in usb mode your mpc shows up on the desktop like a portable drive. at that point you can add any audio file. Thats how iI converted all my old mpc sounds over to the 5ooo. you just drag and drop it's easy. Sound How is its Tone? The mpc is classic in not just hip hop, but alsop R&B, POP, ROCK, ALTERNITIVE, AND ANY GENRE YOU CAN THINK OF. The sound from all mpc's are great but I can definately hear a difference in the punch in the kicks and the crisp in the snares and claps when using an mpc. Each step up for some reason sounds better. Action How was the action out of the box? You will need to get the ram expansion out the box if your going to be using high quality large samples, and make sure you use a high capacity compact flash card. because large sampoles made it freeze until I added the ram. The only people that speak bad about the mpc are the ones that have never used and just going off of what someone else has told them, or they simply just cant afford it. Value Was this item an overall good value? An mpc is always going to be an mpc, but with the added sound on the harddrive, as well as the sounds on the flash rom it's oncredible.

Quality Would you consider this product to be made well? How dependable? yes. it considerably well by today's standards. The older MPC (2k & 2kxl) were like tanks but this is not quit as tank like in comparison but by todays standards (so many cheesy cheapy plasticy controllers) it's rock solid. Features What do you consider to be the best features of this product? What features would you add to this product if you could? Best feature is... wat for it.. hold on to it... the synth and the way it compliments the typical mpc features. I used a keyboard or two with my previous mpc years ago and what a pain the mem dumps were. with this mpc / synth its all in the box. it always recalls perfectly. Another great feature is the USB for connecting to PC/Mac... drag n drop samples... bounce wavs to mpc hdd and drag to PC/MAC. Effects are great. I love the input thru feature where u can sample with eq, compression, filters, or any other effect. chop shop 2.0. adat 8 outs i use all the time with my rme 400 because i have limited 1/4" i/o. ill stuff very usable for the dude like me that is used to using daw features. How playable do you consider this product to be? The one thing about the 5k is that it is so feature packed that there can be a learning curve... still at the core it is still an MPC. I made a ill beat the first night without reading the manual. I made way iller beats when i dug into the manual though. the 2.0 manual is well layed out and every question that i see on the forums, by so called 5k owners, is answered in this manual... READ THE MANUAL FOLKS! Very playable piece of gear its like a daw/mpc/synth in one box. Sound How is its Tone? big big debate hear (here)... Many say that the new MPCs dont sound as bangin or thick. Id say its a sampler. U get out what u put in. I think the debate is more about the older mpc's having a more lo-fi sound quality and that works for some but today for me is about banging and clean. It bangs and its clean especially via the adat out. love it. If i want the old grimmy tone i just throw the switch on the built in compressor's "old skool compressor" setting. Grimmy in the flesh. Versatile sound is whats up. I love options. thats why u buy an mpc 5k... options in sound. grimmy or clean, synth or sample or all of the above. thats the mpc 5k sound. dont be fooled by these fools that condemn this machine. Action How was the action out of the box? Nothin is like mpc pads. they are the best. I went from MPC to all software (for a few years) back to MPC (5k)i found that i really missed pads and buttons and nw with knobs and sliders ... fresh! Value Was this item an overall good value? YES. Considering my situation and all the gear i was thinkin i might need, it was agreat value but I did get it at a deal at approx 25% savings. But i was willing to buy when it was full price prior to OS v2.0. i got it with OS v2.0 and that doubles its value in my opinion. The machine gets a bad rap thanks to some "famous producer" with initials "JB". but its a great box.
