I use this keyboard and controller alongside Logic. I generally use Miroslav Philharmonik 2 and I also use several Spitfire products. This controller works seamlessly with them. If in doubt, this is an excellent investment for any home studio. It's affordable and more importantly...it works!

This controller was well thought out. The keys have a great response. The pad makes me feel like I'm sitting at my MPC and the knobs and faders give me control of many of the attributes in my DAW(Studio One 5). In the future I hope to see tighter integration with Studio One 5 to include tap tempo, arpeggiators, etc...

I had trouble with my authorization coded working when wanting to download the registered software that is promoted with purchase of the device. Really hard to get technical help from Akai when you have these sort of issues. The controller itself is beautiful and I love the way the keys and pads feel. If you don’t have software issues with this controller I’m sure you would love it.

I spent several months deciding which controller I would buy before getting this. Dimensions were important as my space is limited, and I feel that 49 keys is the right compromise between having enough keys and saving space. I love that the pads are in a 4x4 matrix verses 8x2 like many other controllers, and they feel and respond great. Being able to adjust parameters on the pads, and color scheme, is awesome. The semi weighted keys have a good feel for performance. In general, all components seem sturdy and durable - well made. Being able to scroll through mapping for various DAW's and software like Battery 4 was super user friendly. I love that it has midi I/O aside from just USB, as I have a Motif rack that this can control for live performance. It has arpeggio patters stored on it, etc. For the money this is a solid buy with a lot of features and solid build quality. Very recommendable piece of gear.

I don’t even know where to begin with this 1. This keyboard opens up more timely, efficient recording while producing and that’s exactly what I needed. The ability to tap in my tempo, to using the midi pads for percussion and bass. If you make instrumentals then this is definitely where you want to spend your money!

I love my MPK249! I have been able to feel more productive with it in my bedroom studio. The size keys makes it easier for me play/record midi, but also help me get better at playing the keyboard that's best for me. The drum pads are a little smaller than I expected, but still very functional for me. I do have a full size drum pad from Akai (MPD218) as well, but I use that now when I'm away from home. I also love being able to use the faders, knobs, and other buttons for when I'm mixing and mastering my tracks, especially for automation. The MPK249 is definitely my favorite gear in my studio and I'm very happy with this purchase.

This unit wasn't too difficult to set up. It comes with a decent amount of bundled software to control virtual instruments (VSTs) and to fully utilize the built in 4x4 array of 16 pads. It's a great Midi controller!
It should be noted for the uninitiated, this is NOT a keyboard that produces sound on its own. It is a Midi controller that requires a computer or other device (iPad, etc.) to operate.

Switched over from the Roland controller. The key action on the Akai feels better but still a but stiff.
The pads also feel better.
I didn't realize it was so heavy though. It seems solidly built, but the weight will make carrying it around a bit more work.
The transport controls worked with my DAW easily.
So far I'm happy with the purchase.

The keys feel similar to a real piano. Not exactly but very very close. I love the slight resistance as if it’s a full size grand. Semi weighted keys are awesome. Also the drum pad comes in handy when your producing, or chopping samples. Really is a must have for producers and artists

The board is nice but it doesn’t come with stand alone power. This isn’t made abundantly clear for novices. I purchased this for my son as a Christmas gift, I’m not a producer or keyboardist so I wouldn’t know to grab an ac adapter...very disappointing!
