I haven’t played in years, and the guitar I started learning on had some pretty awful action to say the least, which mean my desire to keep learning waned a lot. My college roommate had an Alvarez I absolutely loved playing so when I was ready to jump back in I started looking there and found this model. Ordering was easy, delivery was quick, and everything showed up packed super well and in perfect condition. Guitar sounds incredible and the process was quick and easy.

The perfect acoustic for all styles. The playability and tone is second to none. This guitar costs less than a Yamaha A3 ARE and Guild D150
and blows them away in every regard. Note definition and volume is even across all strings. The action was great right out of the box. The electronics accurately represent the inherent guitar's tone. Mine required no setup whatsoever. Up close ,the attention to detail is incredible. This acoustic is a home run. It is built solid, sounds and plays fantastic whether chilling outside or in the studio.
I wish I would have bought this before any other acoustics I've tried and had to return recently I've been playing 40+ years and can vouch for it's quality.

I have had mid-priced Taylors and Martins and I like this Alvarez better than my previous acoustic-electric guitars. The finish is beautiful and the sound is bright and full. The set up is very good, right out of the box and the guitar stays in tune. This may be the last acoustic-electric I ever buy. Can't really think of any negatives. I might try different strings to find out what is ideal for me, but the guitar itself is as close to perfect as I will ever need. The included "gig bag" is very nice - more like a gig case than a gig bag. AMS is a great company and I love the payment plans. Very, very happy with this purchase.

First and foremost, this guitar is absolutely stunning. It's a premium build with quality parts. It plays great and sounds wonderful. I have been playing guitar for almost 20 years, and this is, by far, the nicest acoustic I've ever owned. My only complaint, it is heavy on the bass tones. If you're used to a brighter sounding guitar, this may not be a good fit for you. Don't get me wrong, it has some brightness to it but the bass can definitely crowd the overall sound. All in all though, great guitar, solid build, beautiful shadow burst finish, plays well, and sounds great! Wouldn't change a thing. It fits my play style and the type of music I like. Love this instrument!

The guitar itself is stunning and then there's the guitar case, wow! What an awesome package and at a really affordable price! The photos online just do not do it justice, the finish looks like it's a foot deep and the grain pattern on the guitar is mahogany which is a really attractive wood.. A bit heavier than most acoustics, but that's the only slightly negative thing I can say.. it has great tone with nice highs, midtones and a bass response that makes it a great guitar for strumming and fingerpicking as well.. I love this guitar..

Order this from AMS with confidence, I have 45 days to evalute and return if the guitar wasnt satifactory. This wont be the case. The fit and finish on this Alvarez guitar are flawless. The guitar was set up perfect. Just minor tune and the intonnation was perfect. Th tone is full, good bass, mids and highs. I have always prefered Mohogany acoustic guitars. I feel that any brand, charging less, or more, would have a hard time competing with this Alvarez. I know it will brings years of enjoyment...Truly an unbelievable value, Thanks Alvarez and AMS

I will not open by saying "for the price". It is a great all-around acoustic/electric guitar. I rarely use it as more than an acoustic. I will put two pics on it when I record and I have got great results. It is solid, but has enough bite to cut through a mix. It is a pleasure to play. I have been playing for 45 years. I don't use an acoustic enough to invest in a Martin or Taylor, so this fits my needs perfectly. In my opinion, I wouldn't hesitate to buy this if I were looking for a great acoustic to use as a "player".

This MDA66CE Masterworks is my 2nd Alvarez. There was no way I could resist purchasing a complete solid Mahogany Guitar that has a Bone Nut, and Saddle, with premium electronics for about $500..Truly a phenomenal bargain! The fit and finish is flawless. AMS shipping time was spot on. Ordered late Thursday (Thanksgiving) and received it at 1:00PM EST Saturday. Not a scratch ding or even dust on the either the guitar or case (hardshell.) The tone is Rich, Warm, yet Bright highs. Out of the box it was a 1/2 step flat from standard 440 tuning. I mean every string was exactly 1/2 step flat. Stunning! I tuned to 440, and was completely amazed with the sound. The sustain is crazy nuts. As would be expected, it still needs minor set up, as intonation is a tad off, and needs very minor neck adjustment. Other than that, it plays beautifully. Action is low, and I played 3 hours straight with very little pain by the end of the session.
I have well known guitars that I have paid two to three times the price of this guitar, and to me, this guitars has bridged the differences between those two. I can honestly state that this guitar is far superior on all levels based on a dollar for dollar basis. Again she is absolutely Gorgeius!! I can't get over how flawless the finish is. Not even a minuscule gap the the seams of the Abalone perflings, and banding. If there was to any criticism; I might suggest alternative placement of the neck strap support so that is posistioned at an angle off the side of the neck; rather than on the heel. But that is a personal preference more than a complaint. Seriously, Anyone that buys this guitar from AMS should be just as pleasantly surprised as I am. BTW, I never write reviews, but I had to get the word out on this amazing purchase, and while I'm at it, I have had zero issues in any way with any purchase I have made with AMS! Kepp up the good work, and you will have this customer for Life! I can't thank you enough. Walt

The guitar sounds great. LR Baggs makes great pickups. I had to set up the guitar and do some work to it but that is to be expected. File down the bridge. File the nut grooves some. Adjust truss rod. Case is nice also.

When I was growing up learning how to play guitar, my uncle had an Alvarez and no matter what guitar was laying around I always picked that one up to play. So when I decided to to finally get one myself, I researched and researched until I came across this one, read the reviews and decided to take the plunge. Best decision I ever made. This thing is so easy to play and the sound is absolutely amazing! If you’re looking for quality without breaking the bank, I highly recommend this one, you will not be disappointed!

About a year ago my other acoustic, which I've had since 1993 started to show signs of road wear and I was having issues left and right. So I went to every local guitar shop and center in Northeast Ohio. I've played every brand of guitar offered and took notes on what I liked the most about them, and what I least liked as well. Then one day in this mom and pop's guitar store I found this guitar sitting on a shelf. (They wanted $1000 for the guitar and case.) So I played it for about and hour and I couldn't make the guitar sound bad in any way. So I wrote the model # down and began my search to find this guitar just a bit cheaper. So I finally found it on AMS for $700 w/case! Let me tell you, I couldn't be happier.
This guitar came out of the box perfect. Not only is it the best looking guitar I've ever seen it's the best sounding. The low end on this guitar resonates so well, with or without amplification. I'm so happy I pulled the trigger on this guitar.

The overall craftsmanship is AWESOME The set-up out of the box is very good I have a high end comparable Martin, and this Alvarez will hold its own with the Martin and costs a fraction of the price. Plugged-in the Alvarez sounds SUPER. I play thru many different amps, and the Alvarez has a very natural acoustic voice with each. I have owned Alvarez guitars in the past and never been disappointed.

I play acoustic guitar aboard the Grand Canyon Railway. This guitar is perfect for the job. The mahogany wood construction provides a clear, bright sound. I like the cutaway feature. I also play it electrically through my PA system. The pickup gives a clean,full sound. In this price range I feel it is the best sound.

I wanted a Taylor 716CE but just couldn't spend the $2,900. I have kids in college. So after 6 months of searching I narrowed my search to the Yamaha A3, Taylor 210ce custom, Martin Shaded dreadnought and the Alvarez masterworks. Of the ones mentioned, the Alvarez and Yamaha were the only ones that were not only solid wood but a gloss finish. The Yamaha is a wonderful guitar but the tone was somewhat muffled compared to the Alvarez and the neck seemed unfinished. By contrast the Alvarez neck was polished and smooth with a satin finish. The Alvarez tone is smooth and rich with a long sustain. The bass is rich and well defined without getting boomy. I owned a mahogany Martin guitar for sometime and never really liked it. The Martin spruce tops are great but never warmed up to the mahogany top. This guitar is very different. It seems they changed the bracing to really bring out the character of the instrument. I also have to say the look is stunning! The abalone glowers under lights
