As a first-time mic buyer, I went back & forth for the longest on which product to invest in. For this microphone to be right under the $100 mark, I can safely say I feel as though I made a good decision. Most of the time I'm weary of things that aren't too expensive because quality is never something I'm willing to sacrifice, but this product truly weighed the scale.
Not only is the sound quality superb, but the look is sleek & sexy as well. If you're considering investing in this mic, I would gladly recommend.

Great sounding microphone at a great price!

Product Review
I have had this microphone for more than a week and have really loved it. The microphone is one of the few microphones in this price range that delivers an excellent studio-quality crisp and clear sound. It is very receptive and picks up voice and instrument sound really well.
It is a condenser microphone so it requires XLR cable connection with phantom power (which most audio interfaces have). There is also a USB version that I haven't tried but should have a similar output if you are looking for something simple that doesn't require another device.

Product Review
Just set up and tried my Audio Technica AT2020 for the first time with my Jumbo Acoustic my Tascam DP-24. I recorded a basic acoustic guitar track and one vocal. The result was a crystal clear, full sounding vocal and a balanced ambience that brought my Epiphone Jumbo acoustic to life. This mic performs at a much higher level than some mics I've used at 4 to 5 times the price. I'm very happy with this purchase from AMS! The price at only $119.00 for the mic alone was great but I opted for the bundle which included the mic, a 20' chord and a boom stand. Thanks again AMS for yet another great deal and your incredible 1 day only shipping to our area. You are the standard of the musical supply industry. You have been my sole musical source for nearly 20 years! I'm looking forward to my next purchase in the not so distant future.

As with most condenser microphones, it's very sensitive. Though it has a cardiod polar pattern, you still need to be mindful of the placement. The high sensitivity also means you need to keep it stable, and you may want to invest in shock mount.
Vocal sound from the mic is a bit sterile, but not so much to break the deal. It's still a good microphone and well worth the price.

Great Condenser Mic For The Price
By: Rick Jones

Product Review
The AT 2020 sounds clean and full without boominess. This is NOT a Neumann by any stretch of the imagination - but it's also a $100 mic. I'm sure a great higher-end compressor like a Warm Audio would warm it up nicely. If you are on a budget and need a solid condenser microphone, you could do a lot worse. Solidly-built, good sound, does what it says it will do. The mic alone is 99 bucks - add 95 cents and you get a boom stand and XLR cable. Not bad. Not. Bad. At. All.

Smooth over the top side (I know some say crisp) so that means to me that the high end is not annoying. The bottom is full and doesn't seem to be boomy. I am trying it cutting vocals thru a DBX channel strip and it sounds very natural. Looking forward to trying out the other pre-amps and channel strips in my rack. In summary I say go for it. You can't go wrong at this price point.

Your general opinion of this product.
Audio Technica,is first call, for my home studio, having owned and used an Audio Technica AT4033,AT4040,and now a AT2020,on many projects. The AT2020 is ideal for acoustic guitar, and very budget friendly, you could spend alot more on other condenser mics, but the build and clarity of these mics really will please most musicians, they don't color your sound they just give a very true representation of what is being sent to your mix,so have your A game working, these are very honest mics and will tell the truth on the user,as the header says money well spent.
Very well engineered and manufactured,no sloppy fit or finish,I don't throw money around, they have to do what they claim,I feel they do that's why I own three of them.
Very straight forward and easy to use, each mic brings something special to the table, try different mic placements on a instrument or vocalist
The build and finish
Clarity
Price
would like to see db cut and roll off switches as other Audio Technica units but it's a small issue
Very honest,it will reproduce what you put in front of it,so at the end of the session,no matter what the brand or price, that's all you really need from a mic, honest reproduction, the AT2020 and the rest of the Audio Technica family do just that.

Your general opinion of this product.
Tne build quality is par with more expensive mics. For doing vocals it sounds amazing. The mic provides a nice bass along with some sparkle. Just remember you're not getting a $1000 mic.
The mic is very well made. I've been using these mics for the past year and found them to be a good workhorse mic for what I do.
Plug and play is easy enough, I'd say.
This mic is a plain Jane compared to others. The features that would make it more versatile in my opinion are a pad and bass roll off switches.
Very good to Excellent tone from this one.

Seems to be a well made mic. Haven't had any troubles with it yet.
I gave this mic 1 star on features, basically because it has none. It would be great if you could switch the pick up pattern.
It is a condenser mic. Just plug it in, turn on the phantom power, and go.
Tone is fine for anyone starting out with a small home project.

nice mic for the price range
plug and play. no frills just the basics
turn on phantom and go.
not bad for a mid sized diaphram condenser i've used it on guitar cabs acoustic guitars and over heads. not as good as the AT 4040, but then again the 4040 is three times the price. as for what Moshe Axelrod about the stand mount needing an adapter to work on standard stands in not totally true. the stand mount has the euro adapter built in it unscrews and can be removed to use on standard american stands.

tracks string instruments and vocals very well. A slightly steril sounding mic. But everyone one should have a couple of those in their arsenal.

I Love Audio Technica Mics
By: Moshe Axelrod from Brooklyn NY USA
Submitted: 8/25/2008
This is a very well made product. Durable, solid, and rugged.
Are pretty standard for a single pattern large diaphragm condenser mic.
Unfortunately the mout that it ships with is set for European style mic stands. Therefore you need an adapter to the larger diameter American size. Thats really the only downside.
So far I have only tried it on A vocal an an acoustic guitar with old strings (I did this deliberately). Its sounded great. The vocal was rich and full and the guitar had presence and fullness. While it wasn't bright on the Guitar (because of the old strings as is to be expected) it still had amazing clarity. The mic is clear and present and perfect for my uses. I've used the 4033 for years and let me say while not sounding like a 4033 it still had that same great Audio Technica sound which has worked fro me on a lot of things. So So far so good definitely worth what you pay.

A very good decision for investing only 1 Benjamin
By: Jeff H. from Davis, CA
Submitted: 2/5/2008
Your general opinion of this product.
QUALITY:
Well constructed metal body/metal grill. I would assume this mic would stand up to many years of useage although I've only had mine for approximately a year.
FEATURES:
No features, no pad or low pass switches, but does that really matter when those options are on almost all preamps and mixers. This is a 100 dollar condeser mic, it sounds good too. I wouldnt expect it to have any more too it.
EASE OF USE:
You need phantom power, again this is no problem with all of the preamps and mixers having this function.
VALUE:
Very fine value. 100 dollars for a lower end Audio Technica product seems very fair and reasonable. Compared to other companies I could see paying up to 25 dollars more and it would be a better choice than AKG's, MXL's, and Nady's 100 dollar mics.
SOUND:
Low noise, this also depends on the preamps you are running it through. Good low end beef with flat mid range and a nice, but not
