Your general opinion of this product.
This microphone is fantastic if you're either a hobbyist or someone that is looking to buy a decent, budget-friendly piece of gear. It has a surprising number of features for a mic so reasonably priced.
Would you consider this product to be made well? How dependable?
This is a very high-quality piece of gear. The mic itself is made out of machined brass. The case is made of very light but sturdy aluminum, and is well padded and really built to take a beating. The shock included shock mount is very well designed and includes spare bungie cord for when the original cord wears out. The mic even has a wooden box for added protection from outside abuse. Overall I would say it's fantastically manufactured for anything at this price point. As are pretty much all Avantone products. Keep in mind however, that it is made in China, so it won't have comparable quality to something that is made in countries with higher standards.
Ease of Use
How easy is this product to use? How easy is the product to use with other products? Did it take long for you to learn to use this product? Was the manual helpful? How playable do you consider this product to be?
It's a very simple and straight-forward mic. It has separate switches for a high-pass filter and a -10dB pad. Basically you just attach the included shock mount to your mic stand, thread the mic onto the mount, plug it in and go. And if you're the type of person that isn't good with figuring stuff out on your own it has an instruction manual that comes with it.
What do you consider to be the best features of this product? What features would you add to this product if you could?
I would say the best features of this mic are the accessories that come with it and the flexibility it offers by having a -10dB pad and a high-pass filter. I was also surprised to see when I got it in the mail that it's hand-tested and has a 5-year limited factory warranty. Even the serial number is hand-written on the included paper. The only thing I wish this mic had was a few alternate polar patterns. But, it's bigger brother, the CK-7 does include cardioid, omni, and figure-8 pattern switching.
How is the tone?
Overall, this mic has a pretty good tone. Don't expect it to measure up to a Neumann by any means, but it does have a pretty even response to it. It loves mid-range tones and it definitely has that classic "sweet spot".
