Quality Would you consider this product to be made well? How dependable? The quality appears to be very good. The system looks very elegant in any setting. Even the included carry bags are high quality. The sound is terrific, but they do require EQ to get good sound. If you don't have the know how, then the tone match engine might help. I found them to be pretty dull and lifeless at their debut gig, until I got a handle on what they needed for eq. An exciter also adds greatly to their sound and impact, particularly on the low end. I have 40 plus years as a sound tech, and these things sound very clear in the mids and highs.I have used JBL SR series for the past twenty years, and I am pretty spoiled. Features What do you consider to be the best features of this product? What features would you add to this product if you could? The best feature of this product is the sound to size ratio. You can get this rig upstairs with ease, and play a huge room, or a tiny room. The quality of the sound is excellent, and provides decent impact for the drums and bass. You get plenty of volume, but at the same time, you somehow don't need as much volume to get a pleasing, exciting aural experience with these speakers. We can rock a club on saturday night, and play a wedding the next day, without scaring the bride's mom with a huge speaker stack. I love the ease of speaker placement. Even in oddly shaped rooms, every seat in the house is a good seat for sound! Ease of Use How easy is this product to use? How easy is the product to use with other products? Did it take long for you to learn to use this product? Was the manual helpful? How playable do you consider this product to be? This system is very easy to assemble, and sounds good right out of the box, but benifits greatly from added EQ,noise gates, compression, reverb, etc, just like any other system does. (I use one system per side, as a FOH traditional PA, (1 tower, 2 bass bins), with big bass and drum mix, five vocals, two horns, keys, and sometimes as many as three guitars at once, one of which is an acoustic!) I also use an exciter to help the low end sound bigger without killing the tiny drivers in the subs. I don't use the tone match engine, since I already have a DBX speaker processor, as well as all the other gear mentioned above...Pros:Great sound from almost any place in a given room, including off to the extreme sides. You can get huge sound in any sized venue short of a stadium, if you know what you're doing. Patrons can sit right on top of these speakers without getting their ears blown out. Cons: Slightly more tedious setup, due to multiple parts, and extra cabling, zippered bags, etc. Sound How is its Tone? The L1's are nothing short of great, especially when you consider their size and footprint. For concerts on the beach, I might consider staying with my EV loaded bass horns and JBL tops, or perhaps a combination of the horn subs and L1's. You can't get the chest pounding sound of a bass horn with the little L1 subs, but you will be amazed by the deep, smoky bass and pleasing punch that you do get! And the fact that every seat in the house gets good sound is nothing short of a miracle. Also, this is the first system I have used that does not suffer from high frequency phase problems when you stand directly in the center of the stage on the dance floor. You do, however, get the normal coupling of the bass bins at this location, which, in my book, is not a bad thing.
Awesome clarity!
