Seems like BOSS thought of it all in this one!!
Sound:
Very real sounding... and you can edit anything anyway you want (all you have to do is figure out how!!)
Overall:
Overall great machine... would buy it again. A bit confusing for a non-drummer type.

It's a whole lot cheaper than hiring a studio drummer and bass player and you can get nearly just as good a sound

MUCH MORE THAN A DRUM MACHINE
Quality:
Excellent quality. No complaints.
Ease of Use:
The DR-880 is not for amateurs. I use the manual religiously and it does get easier. I also bought the DR-880 Instructional DVD online. If you don't have experience with time signatures and key signatures, you will struggle with the step recording feature. You can create awesome guitar backing tracks with this unit, BUT, you have to go through the learning process. You also need creativity and determination to transfer the drum and bass tracks from your head into the DR-880. From negative reviews I have read online, some bought the DR-880 expecting the process to be easier and did not have the patience nor the desire to learn the process. Being a guitar player, I get tired of the cheesy backing tracks online so learning to build my own has been a rewarding experience but it's not easy. I don't use EZ Compose and the preset patterns very much. Step record gives the most accurate timing and process control while also being the most time consuming to learn. Do it! It's worth it.
Sound:
It depends on how I program it.
Value:
Considering the DR-880 has built-in COSM guitar and base amps and effects, it can emulate many different environments through the TSC function, it adds realism through the groove modify functions and it offers something for all levels whether it's sampling some ideas on the touch sensitive pads or programming a track note-by-note... it's well worth every penny of the nearly $500 price tag. It's labeled a drum machine, but it's clearly more than just a drum machine.
Durability:
Very well made. If handled carefully, there should be no problems with this product holding up.

Quality:
I have own Boss products 10 yrs and have never broken one not one.I am sure it is as durable as the rest of there products.
Ease of Use:
I first bought the version 1 about 3 yrs ago and had a short patient span with the manual. So I sold it.I purchased another Boss product the BR900 and order the Roland DVD Owner's Manual from David Wills and I must say I wished I would have kept my first DR-880.I ordered the DVD for the DR-880 from David Wills and used each section at a time until I learned it and let me tell you you don't need the manual, just put on the headphones and practice what he preaches as He goes.Within 1 hour I knew more than I did reading the whole manual with the first one.Everything changed,The sound settings improved the sound quality 100%, Ease of use was like if you can see and hear you got it.With the USB connection I send my Drum and Bass parts straight to my Cakewalk Studio V20 with Guitar Pro and all I have to do is lay down the guitar tracks and vocals with no problems at all.It comes with a CD with the Drivers on it for your Computer.
Sound:
When you first get the DR-880 it is set to factory defaults and it sounds good. But once you learn how to use it you can dial in any tone !!!
Value:
Yes,I first bought one about 3 yrs ago and it was about $150.00 more than I paid a month ago.You can't put a price on satisfaction !!
Durability:
It seems to be very durable,as I have many Boss pedals and have never had a casing or housing break under above normal use.Caution-"Not intented for off-road use ".
