All metal housing with sturdy switches. Seems to be built strong enough to survive a 'wayward singer' on stage who always trips on my gear!
Reliability
How has it stood up over time?
I have not had this long enough but if it is like other Boss gear, should last forever.
General
Your general opinion of this product.
It is as advertised: like a collection of stomp boxes all in a single unit. I couldn't have asked for a better design. I originally wanted to use this for a violin effects unit. It is absolutely fantastic for that! The pre-amp tones down the highs on the fiddle nicely. The harmonizer effect makes it sound like 2 violins. Sweet! But it also is incredible as a guitar effects, which is what it was designed for. I am happy with the way it boosts my violin as well as my guitar too.
Playability and Feel
How does it feel, Heavy, Fast, Chunky? How was the neck? Are the controls easy to get to while playing?
Controls are as easy as a stomp box. The pre amp is a nice addition.
Tone
Bright and snappy? Dark and smooth? Were the pickups hot, mellow, thick, thin?
I can get just about any sound I want. I was going to use this as a effects unit for my electric violin, which by the way, it does a great job for that, but it also makes my guitar do anything I want it too as well.

Black paint, white lettering. No brainer.

Typical sturdy Boss metal housing, and switches. This is a roadworthy piece of equipment. I've almost had mine a year with no problems, aside from needing to repair a power cord from an unfortunate cymbal incident.
Reliability

Great. Durable. Typical Boss construction.
General
Your general opinion of this product.
Overall, great product. I have little use for all the user presets, which is why I went with the ME 70, as it's pull it out of the box and play. Intuitive design, with just the right features.
Playability and Feel
How does it feel, Heavy, Fast, Chunky? How was the neck? Are the controls easy to get to while playing?
Very playable, although if my feet were wide the closeness of the footswitches could be problematic. Functions like any other foot switch, so it's intuitive to use.
Tone
Bright and snappy? Dark and smooth? Were the pickups hot, mellow, thick, thin?
Tone, again, can be whatever you desire, from smooth and mellow to bright and hot, or even dark and thick.
Finish
How did the stain or paint job look?
Great, speckled black finish....red led's accentuate the black.
Action

Action is great, the activation switch on the expression pedal is a little rough, at first, but once your used to it it's second nature.

So far it appears to be holding up well. But then I'm the type of person that takes very good care of my musical instruments and peripherals. The pedals could have been made of a more sturdier rubber coated area instead of the plastic. I would see this being a deciding factor for someone who will use it on nightly or weekly gigs.
Reliability

I cannot tell right now since I've only had it a few weeks but it seems that it will hold up well if taken care of properly.

General
Your general opinion of this product.
After researching different pedals, I came to the conclusion that the different modes of the ME-70 were perfect for my needs to explore on the fly and change tones, as well as ease of control through a set pre-programmed set of tones for a given song. The fact that it runs on batteries as well also gave it an advantage over the bigger Boss pedals. The other advantage being the Manual mode that works like individual stomp boxes which makes improvising alot easier.
It is well built and looks solid, we will see how it handles the test of time.
Playability and Feel
How does it feel, Heavy, Fast, Chunky? How was the neck? Are the controls easy to get to while playing?
Great for improv, especially in manual mode, to adjust on the fly and tweak different effects is nice. Go ahead and purchase the FS-6 footswitch with it now, it makes switching between banks quicker and easier, and makes the whole pedal much more user friendly than it already is. You can switch them without it, but it requires holding down two switches at once for a few seconds and then switching up or down through the sound banks, but the aux. switch makes it a one tap operation, worth it!
Tone
Bright and snappy? Dark and smooth? Were the pickups hot, mellow, thick, thin?

COSM Liking What I Hear

Quality
Would you consider this product to be made well? How dependable?
Typical BOSS quality. Solid feel, weight, and function. Each brand has its inherent quirks, and BOSS is no different. Overall, a well-made product that should stand up to heavy use with a little care. If you bang and throw things in the trunk, be prepared to replace some knobs - there are a lot of them to lose or break. Time will tell, as with all, but it should live.
Reliability
How has it stood up over time?
I've had mine 7 or 8 months, and it hasn't so much as blinked. Knobs are plastic, but decent. Pedal switches seem solid and reliable. If you step on two switches, you will go into an unintentional feature, so accuracy in needed, and the expression pedal seems solid enough. It takes a fair amount of pressure to turn it off or on though. BOSS is well know for reliability, so I don't expect problems, but anything can happen to anything. The more there is, the more there is to go wrong. Such is life.
General
Your general opinion of this product.
Very versitile unit that can create usable sounds for any genre of music you want, with or without effects. Want a clean sound, leave the OD/DS unit out of the loop. Use the preamp with COMP and MOD with or w/o the DELAY module. Creamy smooth clean sounds result. Add the OD/DS and you can go from silky smooth blues to screaming defined metal. The ME-70 competently bridges the gap between a limited mess of pedals and full-out rack rigs. I'm pleased and liking what I hear.
Playability and Feel
How does it feel, Heavy, Fast, Chunky? How was the neck? Are the controls easy to get to while playing?
Lots of knobs etc. to deal with on a dark stage if you want to get the most out of this unit. Feels solid and has some weight to it - it won't be sliding around. When will the major suppliers of floor-based multi-effects units going to make the expression pedal removable so you can adjust the unit at desk height and operate the actual pedal on the floor, and then be able to solidly conncet it back to the unit for stage work? Are they listening? Would save backs, guitars banging around, and squatting on stage. Plus, you can more easily get some decent presets created with ease and set up the function and action of the expression pedal for when it is attached to the unit. A guy can dream, can't he? They ALL need to be designed this way. I'm willing to fork the extra cash right on over for the ease of use.
Tone
Bright and snappy? Dark and smooth? Were the pickups hot, mellow, thick, thin?
The unit itself is very capable of producing wonderful sounds, whether clean, crunch, overdriven, or flat out paint-peeling distortion. The key is what you send it through. Straight into the boad works if the PA system is up to the task. A good tube amp, or any tube amp with an fx loop (just plug into the return, effectively bypassing the preamp coloring of your sound, unless you like the sound that way,)or Tech 21 power amps, will get you creamy smooth sounds. Stereo is the way to go. Be a board hog, or get in the habit of buying 3 of everything to have 1 backup, but stereo is the way to get the most out of any device such as this. People in the stereo field will get it, you can ping-pong a delay and watch the tennis match effect on the crowd and everyone else will get the wet or dry side mostly, unless it's a small venue. Real small. Bar.
