Product Review I've recently taken the leap forward into the pedal world after playing for a few years on modulation amps. I've tried some lesser known pedals and relative to my experience, BOSS is the way to go. I can see and hear why they've been such a reputable pedal all these years. American Musical Supply made my purchase simple and easy to place, free two day shipping, and the packaging was well done. Ill definitely keep purchasing more BOSS pedals from AMS and I highly recommend you do too.

Product Review Metal Zone is one of the first stompboxes I bought when I was first learning to play guitar in 1990. The fact that they are still around today is fairly telling on its own. Given its relative antiquity, how does the Metal Zone hold up today? In my opinion, it holds up immaculately. You obviously have a fair degree of control with the 2 channel EQ, volume, and distortion knobs. This pedal won't match a lot of today's pedals as far as programmable diversity, but it continues to produce a rock solid sound. I personally use this pedal more as an overdrive than as a straight distortion these days, and it works perfectly in that regard. However, as a stand alone distortion, it still sounds good. Are there better distortion pedals out there? Yes. Are there any that are more consistent and reliable? By my mind, not so much.

Quality product and well made like all boss products. Very reliable. Your general opinion of this product. I bought mine at a pawn shop for 50 bucks. Its a good pedal and defenately metal. Kind of a gritty tight distortion. Like I said better than a fullbore not better than a metal muff. Darker than the fullbore lighter than the metal muff. Just because this pedal doesn't work with my rig doesn't mean it won't work for you. Its cheap enough you should at least give it a try its very usable. I do hear the boss metalcore is better though. Very black and evil looking. Looks great. Sounds great and easy to find a tone if your use to useing sweep knobs.

good quality imo It is built very well and will last on the road Ive owned mine for a week now, but the other guitarist in our band has had one for 2 years now and it has stood up through all the stomping, and has been dropped a few times too, but still works like a charm. Its best for Metal genres. If you are looking for a distortion pedal, this the most versatile one to get. BUY IT!! well it boss should last!! Your general opinion of this product. This product can't be beat for the price. I bought this pedal to hold me over till the new line of bugera infinums come out. I just got back into playing but did not have an amp so my cousin loaned me an old EMX 620 PA system that i was not sure would work as an amp running distortion pedal through, But to my amazment it sounds awsome lots of EQ options also so I was able to dial in a great metal sound..This pedal sounds better then my old peavy valveking atleast as for metal tone. Your general opinion of this product. The best sounding, strongest distortion pedal out there! Its easy to turn on and off, and has no click when you stomp it. great for recordings. Metal mayhem!!! It has 6 controls to control your lows, mids, highs, level, and gain It looks great with flat black and orange font finish is good nobs turn easy lol it was very well once i plugged everything in

All the Boss products I've bought have been very well made and seemingly indestructible, and this one does not stray from the trend. The box itself is quite heavy and the exposed surface area is made of either metal or very strong plastic. Replacing batteries is a breeze and the EQ controls give you quite a bit of play with your sound. You can really get into it with this pedal and not feel like you're going to break it; your shoes are liable to wear out faster than this thing. Your general opinion of this product. I'm very satisfied with the quality for the price I paid. There are better distortion pedals out there, but not for anywhere near this amount. Would like a "click" feel at pedal activation but it's easy to press and there is no warmup delay. The tone is actually very tinny, but there's enough control between most amps and the EQ knobs on the pedal to get just about any sound you need. I actually prefer this one for blues over my blues driver when tweaked right. Honestly, it's an ugly pedal. But the point here is function, not form. And really, what can you expect from a metal distortion pedal. Takes about 2 seconds to hook up, comes with a battery already installed, and the owner's manual has EQ examples for those who are not familiar with how to work all those knobs, so you can get close to the sound you want right out of the box.

Your general opinion of this product. OVERALL:
Don't listen to anyone who's just heard a friend use it or had it for about two days. When I played this thing in the store it sounded freaking awesome.... on a really expensive amp and a Gibson Les Paul. After playing it awhile at home with my $200 Ibanez and old 50 watt amp, it just wasn't giving me the same crunch. I was looking for a hard rock pedal, so maybe I made a mistake in buying a metal distortion. It always seems to have too much treble no matter how much I crank the bass, and when I crank the bass I get really messy-sounding palm muting and very little attack. It just doesn't channel well through my amp's boost channel. It actually sounds better and louded through the clean channel, but pretty shallow as well. It's not all bad, and if you're into certain types of metal you'll probably really like it. For hard rock fans, it's a noisy little creap that will probably annoy you in the end. Not worth $90.

Your general opinion of this product. This is a pedal you can very much depend on. It's easy on the ears, so long as you spend time playing with the mid's. On the lower register, I can get the beefy, articulate sound I do enjoy so very much. However, on it's own, the sound is strange abrasive when used to solo. Like another review said, use it with a tube screamer (Ibanez). Besides it being harsh in the high register and it being difficult to find the right sound for the mids, this is a most excellent pedal and is an essential for the modern electric guitar player.

Your general opinion of this product. Quality: It's a boss... need i say more? they build there stuff like a brick. Features: 1. The thing that makes this better then the rest of the buzz boxes out there is the mid freq control. this opens you up to give you the sound you want. You can go from crunching metal to warm over-drive. 2. It has that "one more" to it. It will give you not only a hard distortion sound, it will give you a quality distortion. this means that you will be able to hear more of the note without turning down the drive. it,s a "clean distortion" (the noise you want and not the noise you don't). Ease of Use: You will need to know how to use the sweep mid (or it will suck). Once you do, you will have all "tone" you want, nomater if you are in to late 80's early 90's hair metal, hard blues, hard rock, or grung. Whatever you want, it will do! Value: Your going to shell out around a little more for this one, but it will be worth every penny. Reliability: I've had one

Your general opinion of this product.

QUALITY:
I can see myself throwing this as hard as I can on my tile floor and for it not to dent. It's heavy and freaking powerful. Just holding it you can just feel how durable it is. It's just made of a really strong metal.

FEATURES:
The EQ knobs can create all kinds of sounds. This can creat much more sounds than "death metal". I play all kinds of rock with this thing. The people who thought it was only for metal probably didn't know how to adjust it right. But what bothered me was that it didn't come with an AC Adaptor. That bothered me considering how much I payed for it but whatever.

EASE OF USE:
It's easy to "use" but adjusting it to get the right sounds and learning what kind of effects all the knobs make takes time.

VALUE:
It's expensive but I have never seen a pedal with such amazing sound before so it was worth it. The thing is I think all pedals are overpriced so I can't really give the value a high

Your general opinion of this product. Sure if you got some really expensive top of the line guitar rig and equipment this thing probably sounds awesome. But if you're looking for just that somewhat acceptable distortion and tone to practice by yourself with your little practice amp it's very noisey. Palm muting sucks on this thing. Sucks for clarity at high volumes really fizzy and buzzy and hummy. Drains batteries quickly. The whole time you're thinking "wow i wonder what this would sound like without the noise." But if you got a noise supressor and some $1000 amp and top of the line gear get it it will probably sound awesome!!!!!!???

Your general opinion of this product. This pedal is great! It eats up batteries though so get a 9volt adapter. The piece of paper that comes with it has 8 modes you can muck around with and some you can make your self. It makes 70's rock mainly heavy metal and i mean HEAVY. One prob though it hums like crazy when playing chords so get a noise supressor. Don't get any other cheaper brand like digitech because they are much worser. If you have enough money buy a noise supressor and like a flnager or something just 4 the fun of it and hear the wiked sounds it makes. Great pedal a must get for all it has in it, it's name makes up 4 it's self(metal) entirely made of metal and won't break and makes metal. Must have in your pedal collection or to start one.

Your general opinion of this product. If so, this is the pedal for you! This has the absolute best distortion. If some find it too noisey, they should turn down the distortion setting. I play Pantera, Overkill, Godsmack, and all the other heavy greats with the distortion set at just over half. For leads, throw in an Ibanez Turbo Tube screamer and you're ready to do some Death Dealin! For maiden, turn dist. to just under half. You have to play around with the midrange to dial up the sound "cavity" you're trying to fill. Once you get the feel for the controls, this is by far the best keg-splitting tool out there.

EASE OF USE:

Your general opinion of this product. BOSS and its "Metal Zone" pedal have long been touted as the greatest. Most go and buy a BOSS blindly not even considering other options for distortion and other effects. I urge you to look at more options than the few you probably already have. Construction: A cheap piece of crap. A lot of people boast how BOSS' products are indestructible. I am here to dispute that. I would not be surpised if my Metal Zone were to fall apart at any moment and never be used again. The screws to put a 9-Volt battery in the pedal are dirt cheap and a complete pain in the ass to take in and out. (Hint, hint: You won't have this problem with Digitech pedals.) The thing weighs about two ounces and is made in Taiwan. (It FEELS like it was made in Taiwan.) Digitech pedals have a better pedal release, are constructed with a hell of a lot LESS cheap plastics, and are MADE IN THE FREAKIN' USA. Sound: Very limited options. So much for creating your own sound. Three out of five guitarists own the Metal Zon

For all those people saying you need top of the line gear for this to sound good, thats not really true... Good equipment will do the trick... Of Course if you play through a $50 Guitar and a $20 amp there is not much that is going sound good anyways... I like lots of gain so this with my EQ pedal and along with a little extra gain from my amp gets me where I want to be... You cannot just play with it for 10 minutes then just say it sucks, ta

Your general opinion of this product. I got it a few months ago and it took my breath away! I've never heard anything like it! It was a tad more expensive than the competition but it is well worth it. The only 2 problems with it are that the mids are kinda hard to mess with and it does eat up batteries. But besides that, it is without a doubt the perfect pedal. After a couple days with it, I made the heaviest distortion I've ever heard. BUY IT! I guarantee you won't regret this one.

Your general opinion of this product. This pedal is by far the best distortion pedal ever, the tone possibilities are endless, you can go from mellow overdrive to extreme heavy metal. Ever since i got this, I've compared it to every other distortion pedal that I've had a chance, and nothing compares. I have had this for over two years and it still works like brand new.
