Subject:Solid Mic for Acoustic Recording
Quality: It seems well made, the blue housing is made of metal. It has a heat deflecter just below the capsule (internally) that reflects the heat downward. I would be careful when installing a new tube, as its connected to a chip board that you wouldnt want to wiggle too much. The Cad Trion 8000 sounds better for vocals, but this mic sounds great on Acoustic Guitar. This mic is sensitive when it comes to axis. For vocals, if you move off axis (sound source focused straight towards the capsule) the mic will sound different. I recommend it for instruments because of this. Its quiet, I didnt get any noise from the tube as I have from other entry level tube mics.
Features: I think the mic has everything you need for a cardiod mic.
Ease of Use: Easy as plugging it in and hitting the record button
Sound: The freq. response is relatively flat and full. Again, for vocals, I think the mic lacks higher freq response needed to bring out the airy end of vocals. Its tone is not thin though, you'll get warm recordings using this mic. Its possible with the right tube the mic could sound great on any sound source.
