If you like roundwound tone, but want the benefits of a flat string, these may be for you.
Sounds great, good feel. Great for recording, cuts down on some noises that round wounds may present.

Since I don't play professionally, I purchased a rather inexpensive bass. I played bass when younger, then switched to 6 string. The bass is a great product, with great sound, so I thought, until I replaced the strings with these XL Chromes. WOW! This bass came alive. With a nice warm tone, vibrant deep notes, smooth as silk. When I get heavy, this thing sings. Rich, mellow, yet clear and strong. Would purchase again and again. Great product.

I have used D' Addario flat wounds for years on my Basses. I love the deep mellow sound they produce. Smooth for your fingers and no zip sound as you slide up and down the frets. Love them!

A Little Work

When finished installing these strings I felt "Now that's the sound I am used to". But it took a little work as the string were just barely to short. It took a little silk trimming as the ball end silk ovelapped the bridge saddle. Once that was done the strings tuned and intonated perfectly on my Gibson SG Standard. These strings feel great and sound phenomenal. On my Fender Mustang PJ they went on like a dream and sound just as good.

I never played with flat wounds before, but I wanted my P Bass to sound distinctly different from my Jazz bass. These flat wounds accomplished that. If you don't know the difference in tone, check out some comparison videos on YouTube. There are plenty. The feel is a little odd at first for someone who has only ever played round wounds, but that feeling is easily overcome. The tone is great on the P Bass. It gets you closer to that original P bass tone.
This is a standard D'Addario string pack, it's exactly what you would expect.

I've tried several other brands of flats and these work best for me. They're a bit brighter than most other flats, but that's what I like. They also have a nice mid range growl and the lows don't get too thuddy sounding. Plus, they have a bit more tension than round wounds. I can get low action with no fret buzz.

Fat and Warm

Product Review
I have these on my acoustic bass guitar and a short scale set on my Hofner "Beatle Bass". I love flat wound strings for bass, and these are fat and warm without being dark and muddy.
On an acoustic bass guitar, it helps the bass mix into the song and not stand out, much like a double bass would. On the Hofner, it thumps with great bottom end.
Smooth flat wound feel. I will never go back to round wound for bass guitar.
Gave me the vintage thump I had been looking for.
Yes. Unless you're playing hard rock or metal, I think round wound are the best for smooth balanced bass tone.

Very Good
When you first put them on they are super bright, but once you've played them for a couple of days straight their real sound and charactor starts to come through for a nice deep, rich, thumpiness
These strings feel amazing! They are how flats should be. Full of tone and yet still thumpy
Smooth and thumpy, the way flats are supposed to sound.
The lights have the same playability as roundwound mediums... keep that in mind when ordering for the first time

Daddario's quality is amazing. I've played them for over 10 years and never had a bad set. They're American made and have prompt customer service, I can't say enough good things about D'addario! (no I don't work for them haha)
I like versitle basses. With these strings I can play rock gigs or jazz gigs and be able to dial in a tone I'm satisfied with.
Very versatile! I can get bright rock tones to thumpy R&B tones.
They feel like flats should. It'll take a few minutes to get used to them if you're used to rounds.
