The 286s is an amazing piece of equipment. My wife and I full-time RV. I also have a podcast as a hobby. The travel trailer isn't sound proof but with careful adjustment, the 286s enhances my voice and eliminates background noise. Highly recommend!

I've been using dbx products for decades. Absolutely love them! And this 286s mic pre/processor is absolute for any voiceover artist/talent. I gave it **** because it doesn't have an on/off switch. The solution to that? use a power strip that will allow you to turn on/off if you decide to do so. Other than that, truly a "must have".

Put this in our signal chain to reduce the need for effects processing in your DAW. The compressor and the expander/gate are my favorite and most useful features. The reduction of room noise that this thing can accomplish must be heard to be believed. Need gain for that dynamic mic? Not anymore! You've got more than enough gain here (input and output) for any dynamic mic. I use it for podcasting and voice-over and it exceeded my expectations.
My only wish is for it to have a power switch. As it is, if it's plugged in, it's on. But this is a minor detail. If you have a power supply in your rack, this isn't even an issue.

Powerful / clean pre-amp with effective / natural processing. As a voice-over artist, I use the unit for the pre-amp, the de-esser and a noise gate. I prefer to apply compression via software plug-ins after the fact (although the compression is great in this unit) as well as EQ after recording (I mostly use subtractive EQ). Definitely worth the investment and it's nice having the options. If I ever perform any live audio streaming / podcasting, I will definitely use more of the compression and LF / HF enhancer features.

This is my second time purchasing the "DBX286S Processor". I wanted a clean sound for the studio and this was recommended to me. I believe this is a great buy if you want to eliminate any background noise. What also made this a great buy was the the fast delivery.

I use this to do commercials and voice overs with an EV RE 20. My RE 20 is pretty flat. The DBX 286 allows me to warm it up a little. For the price you can’t beat it. I only had a couple of hundred to spend and this box did the job at the right price point.

This is an amazing channel strip / preamp. The compressor is amazing for adding punch, and "in your face" vocals, I would suggest you try different settings to find your personal "sweet spot". The low frequency, and high frequency enhance knobs are great for achieving the perfect balanced vocal to fit your taste. Then there's the noise gate function, it works great for cutting out background noise, it really produces a studio quality vocal. In conclusion, Dbx has made a very powerful tool with the 286s, and very affordable. If you're second guessing it, don't. PURCHASE NOW!

So far, this thing is exactly what my Shure SM7B needed. No cloudlifter anymore, and I am running the gain on my Mackie mixer all the way down.

The quality is pretty solid.
The de-esser is probably the most noticable featur. the compression is subtle and I think you really have to decide if compression at the pre-amp stage is what you're looking for.
This is basically a simple item. I'm using the settings suggested in the manual, which are fine for generic applications.
The I would describe the sound as clean and crisp.
Only had it for a few days.
Your general opinion of this product.
The sound is clean. An on/off switch would be nice.
