The Only Strings I Will Use
Quality
Would you consider this product to be made well? How dependable?
For the amount of time that I have spent playing on my current set of Dunlop 09-42 strings I would consider the quality to be 2nd to none. I feel that these are the best. And offer me the best balance of all of the characteristics that I demand in a string.
Reliability
How has it stood up over time?
I am daily player playing anything from blues, to jazz, to Van Halenish rock, and beyond. I estimate that I average about 36 hours or so on one set. I due extreme bends, dives, wails, roars, tapping, right handed hammer ons, etc. you name it I do it and these strings hold up to anything I trow at them.
Overall
Your general opinion of this product.
I have tried numerous brands of strings, GHS, Daddario, Fender, Martin, Blue Steel, Ernie Balls, etc. None have the over performance of these strings. These strings don't color my tone, I can do extreme bends, wails etc., and I estimate that I usually average at least 36 hours per set before I feel that I have to change them. I have only had 2 strings break on me in the last 2 years since I started to use them and thats when I failed to change the strings after logging at least 45-50 hours on them and after constantly tuning and detuning the strings from standard E to flat tuning.
Playability and Feel
How does it feel, Heavy, Fast, Chunky? How was the neck? Are the controls easy to get to while playing?
I have found that the action is buttery, and very excepting of just about any type of music I played or tone that I wanted to get from the strings.
Tone
Bright and snappy? Dark and smooth? Were the pickups hot, mellow, thick, thin?
The tone is completely uncolored, and I can make my guitar sound however I need it to while using these strings.
Finish
How did the stain or paint job look?
They have the same finish as any nickel-wound guitar strings.
Action
How was the action out of the box?
Although the guitar, intonation of frets, and setup of the neck and bridge all play role, I find these strings to be exceptionally buttery, and a real pleasure to play on. I play a Brian Moore Custom Shop and use the 09-42 light gauge.
