This does as close of an impression of EVH as you can get out of a single pedal, yes. But people don’t realize that with the EQ and the noise gate this is one of the most versatile OD pedals you’re gonna find. Good luck finding another OD pedal with a noise gate that can go from making you sound EVH-ish one song to being a crazy good clean OD that can rival a Klon while having a great functioning smart noise gate.

butter, I believe I have found a new love. I have heard this pedal has fooled EVH himself and I believe it. Just a little bit of fine tuning can dial in the man himself!
I am absolutely crazed with the brilliance with a noise gate and a boost switch both built in,,and they work incredibly ??. You've got to try one on for yourself, swing me an email and if you live in MARYLAND I just might make a trial available to you. You won't believe your ears as you play wildly through my setup whether or not the great one may be right with us. Just do it man!

This overdrive pedal is used by many pros now in their pedal chain to layer gain stages and I fully understand why now. The noise gate is an excellent addition to my chain, smooth saturation and warm distortion to screaming high gains. Don't be afraid to turn the knobs really low, you will be much more impressed if you do and will likely have better results. This staged with a tube screamer, a TC micro boost and an MXR EQ pedal is a killer setup for stage or studio. Plug in and rock!

This is a great high gain unit and boost. If you're needing more sustain the 5150 will do the job, and certainly so for tube amps. The EQ is powerful. I own several of these, and I just purchased another one due to being a dirt cheap scratch and dent price. There were no scratches nor dents; Someone pushed the plastic knobs all the way down against the pedal enclosure. (Injection molded plastic knobs aren't completely flat on the bottom, so if they're pressed all the way down they can't rotate without sticking in places.) I pulled the knobs back up to the proper position, and I have a brand new badass pedal that I got for super cheap. Thank you to whomever purchased this unit before I did.

This is everything as promised! Great tone, awesome versatility and easy to dial in. I’ve been searching for the perfect match to my strat with a SD JB and this is it. The three bands in the eq are dialed in perfectly. If you looking for great overdrive to distortion look no further.

I wanted to add the EVH 5150 tone to my arsenal and decided on the Preamp/Overdrive pedal as the way to go. I have a good friend that has the EVH 5159 6L6 50 Watt amp and matching 2X12 cabinet and we ran this through the clean channel of another amp and the gain and tone were evenly matched with some tweaking and I couldn’t be happier with my decision to this addition to my rig. AMS delivers again!!

I was really glad to get my 5150 pedal. It provides some great tones (from slightly dirty to complete overdrive). The gate is useful to minimize unwanted noise and the boost really makes your guitar scream. Easy to control the bass, mid and treble sound. Definitely met my expectations and was worth the money.

Tried one at the local guitar shop today and I've gotta say, it's awesome. I use a Krank Rev SST live and the Krank Channel just doesn't have enough gain for what I play. Took my head and guitar to the shop, plugged this bad boy into the front of the head and put it on the Klean channel. Turned up the volume and I was hooked. Literally plugged it in and it sounded great without even tweaking it. But once I dialed in a tone, that was it. I'm sold. Definitely ordering one right now lol.

I literally received this pedal the day of rehearsal had no time to even mess with it took it straight there unpacked it and BAM it was on the pedal board. I adjusted maybe a few knobs for about 5 minutes and let me tell you..........it lives up to the expectations.

I was very pleased with this pedal overall. I played the box through a Marshall JVM215 and EVH striped series guitar. I was really happy with the tone achieved with this set up!Easy to use, Lots of gain. The pedal has basic tone controls with the addition of a extra boost button. when pressed there is a noticeable punch to the sound of the overdrive. The housing is very solid and will take some abuse. There is also a noise gate button that performs as advertised. You can use 9volt battery or use an adapter if that is your preference. The only downside is the price about 200 dollars. For the average guitar player that's a big hit to the wallet. I'm very happy with this purchase and would recommend this product!

I have used many distortion pedals in many forms from tube to solid-state in my 34 years of playing guitar. I find this pedal to be one of the most versatile distortion pedals I have ever played. It's like I have gone back in time where the original MXR, RATT, Tube Screamer and mesa boogie V twin sounds and all in a small package. The forethought that MXR has put into this design says it all combining not just a great eq, but a noise gate too. My hat is off to you at MXR thank you for supporting my musical for the 34 yrs of playing and hope to see more great designs from your comp[any in the future.

I was able to get rid of 3 overdrives/distortion pedals (TS-9,DS-1,rat) and still have better tone, wider range of drive and the gate is a bonus. It is a permanent fixture in my pedal-board!.

The pedal that does NOT sound like a pedal at all. And there is room on the gain knob and the 3 band eq to get any gain you want for any style, not just brown sound in a box. But, man, it does do the Eddie tone perfectly and with a night, tight bottom end too. Favorite pedal I've ever used after 30 plus years of playing.

I love this peddle! Not only do you get an amazing overdrive that is good for the classic late 70's to 80's tube distortion; with the press of a button you can get a modern high gain tone that Eddie uses today. The boost button not only adds a big gain boost with extra compression; it does it without effecting the overall volume. There is also a MXR noise hate circuit to keep all the annoying buzz out of your rig. If you are looking for a new overdrive peddle for your board, look no further. You owe it to yourself to try the 5150 overdrive!!!
